I'm currently running a brim to brim test and I'll report back when I have the figures. Even then, it is very subjective, being dependent on the right foot of the individual and the type of journeys covered. .........and tyre pressures, actual tyres fitted, add-ons like side steps, front guard, mud flaps, amount of stuff/passengers being carried, how full the tank is, ambient temperature and humidity etc, etc. The later 4.3s are a lovely looking car. I think if you like the car and you are getting close to 30 mpg then whether it is say 28 mpg or 38 mpg won't make much difference unless you are doing galactic distances - enjoy!

This was one I had a few years ago. Good car.
'12 Reg D-CAT Auto. Fitted with Lindop Chip, hence 35.5 MPG avrg.

Something that I found which had a small effect on what the actual MPG was ... the ODO underread by around 3%. I found this out after I had a Scangauge running in the vehicle and that reported a slightly different mileage to the ODO figures. I confirmed the Scanguage was right with the results from both a Standalone Sat-Nav and roadside markers. End result was that the Brim-to-brim calcualations using the ODO were around 3% pessimistic, so I could add 1MPG to the number - hey, every little helps I've never got the kind of economy some do, but I don't have a heavy right foot either. Side View a couple of weeks later RAV43-2011SR-WinterWheels2 by David, on Flickr (This is how Big Kev always saw my car ) That looks great Hoovie. Interestingly, the side steps on the 4.3 don't seem to drop as low as they did on my 4.2 that stole quite a bit of ground clearance. Would I be correct in saying that the 4.3 side steps don't make much difference to ground clearance? So I may well get them in the not too distant future. I don't have this car anymore but I think while ground clearance will be reduced a bit, it is not as extreme as the 4.2 options. I didn't have sidesteps on my 4.2, but I did have side bars (as part of the 'Chrome Collection' kit). They both used the same mounts so likely had the same impact on clearance? Here is my 4.2 with the bars - and as you say, a fair bit of clearance taken away .... DirtyRAV4-6 by David, on Flickr (PS. Forget Go Faster Stripes!! the eagle eyed will have spotted my Go Faster Donkey )

.........and bear in mind if you opt for the spotted sidesteps, the front mudflaps require some deft work with a Dremel to fit correctly.

Millers diesel treatment improves MPG or best quality fuel does the same. Using Millers works out cheaper if you buy 5 litres at a time.
The White SR with Style pack is the best looking RAV4 so far. And that includes the hideous new model.

When the steps are fitted they kinda reduce mud splash without the need for mudflaps.. Some trim them and fit them anyway I did on my T180 and they are very easy to do .

I've put a new thread up about adapting the Mudflaps - RAV4.3 - Adapting Mudflaps to work with the Premium StepsIIRC, it is only required if fitting the Premium Steps. There are some other steps that don't have the same front protusion and the Flap fits directly (can anyone confirm/correct this statement?)

Well I fitted the large, squarish' side steps (aluminium extrusion and black rubber stripes with black rubber end boots) and mudflaps to my 4.2 and there were no interference problems. Of course, that's not a 4.3 but it might be a clue. Not that I'd fit those ones to my 4.3, I think the 'spots' side steps are much neater.

I had the "standard" steps on our 4.3 and they did not foul the mudflaps. :TU:

If I remember right, Toyota actually did swapouts (I think Kevin got his exchanged?) so maybe it was a batch fault? I don't remember seeing that problem with mine, but then again my RAV4 never even got to its 2nd birthday before being nicked so maybe too early to know in my own case.

Wasn’t actually rust per se, Jamesy......but it was rust........from the wee particles being emitted from brake pads landing on the steps, getting wet, and leaving broon measle spots on the aluminium steps. Guy at Toyota used a paint thickness gauge to try and prove to me mine were lacquered, as opposed to knackered. He read the figure on his paint gauge for the lacquer thickness........and promptly ordered me another pair on a car six months old.....! Replacements must indeed have SOME coating as not recurreded.
