I was told by my MrT that the serpentine belt is changed on an inspection basis Paul - I guess that means that if there are signs of wear it should be changed.

Does the advisory have a number against it (I think all points have to be referenced to a testing standard).
Ref Belt - there is a massive margin added to belts by many garages so watch out you don't get ripped off! I replaced the power steering belt on my VW and a Gates belt (so more then the equal of one branded with a car makers logo) cost around £3 to buy.

Cheers David I will get it done ASAP, but I can't even find any on the net just the tensioners so is there a problem with them does anyone know?

No numbers David just the Red, Amber and green sections for fail, advisory and ok.

When ours broke, the very helpful AA man went to all the local motor factors to try to get one so he could fit it but nobody had one. In the end it was a Mr.T job.

Oh so that's why I probably can't find any on line then Jim so looks like it'll have to be a part from Toyota. :TU: Some good news for once, my mechy mate phoned me yesterday and couldn't get his hat on at what Toyota had charged us for doing the rear spring so said he can do the other side for us and do the aux belt so is also coming round later today to give the Rav a good looking over but said it can't be all that bad if Toyota have given it twelve months MOT now and just a fail on a broken spring which is a common occurrence on a car of this age. So we will see later all been well.

Ok so it seems there has been some confusion re the body scratches and bumps I think. Seems the sheet of paper with the advisories on and the fail was an health check now and nothing to do with the MOT. Now this sheet of paper with the Red, Amber and green colours on was shown to us by the young lady dealing with us when we took the Rav in for the MOT and is what she showed us after the MOT was complete so apparently these advisories won't be seen on the MOT paper when we get, oh yes their computer had gone down again so couldn't print any MOTs out, this is the third year on the run this has happened??
Also my mate popped round and said the Rav looks fine from what he could see. He's just bought his Mom a 2001 3 door Rav NRG with just over 49k on the clock from a friend of the family at a bargain price and has changed both rear springs on it.

When we had the 4.2 Mot’d last month the tester made a list of advisories for corrosion basically everywhere. It really got me worried but when I mentioned it to another mechanic at the same garage when I went to pick it up he said it’s only surface rust nothing major. I suppose if we did go to sell it in the future it’s going to look worse on paper than it is. It’s absoluteky solid while it was on the ramp he allowed me to have a look and he got his hammer and said it was ok but they have to put it on the paperwork. All confusing for me and just gets you paranoid. 😔🙄
