Paul , I had to replace the rear springs on mine a couple of years ago due to a broken spring. I bought a pair of Sachs from ECP for about £100.

Looking back at the photos of the Rav4 all I can see and it’s very petty is the front edge of the side step could be seen as sticking out ...be interested to hear what the bodywork problem is 👍🏻

I guess after what happened to the car I sold recently and was due an MOT a month later (and under 1000 miles since last MOT & Service) I am wary no matter how honest and trustworthy the seller (me in this case!) is. Yep David I agree and we said we would never buy a car through a private sale again after a bad experience some time ago but the same can be said of a garage sale which we had plus garage sales were around 1-1.5k more for similar year and mileage.

At last the Rav is finally fit for the road after picking it up this morning from Toyota with a new full MOT on it :TU: They fitted the new spring but also had to fit a new drop link and had an advisory that the auxillary belt will need changing soon as the one on has cracks so looks like that'll be the next job

Turning into a bit of a project Paul. Have you found the 'bumps and scratches' or were they just on the testers head?

It's not a big deal but they are pretty sophisticated, aren't a general stock item in motor factors and you have to go to Mr. T for a replacement so failure can be a right PITA. Ours went on a Friday afternoon so it wasn't on the road again until the following Tuesday. Fortunately we had Club Toyota so a hire car was provided for the period.
I always check the service history on any car I buy now to see when if the belt has been replaced. It's generally not a big expense but they are so much more than the old fan belt in that they tend to drive the alternator, water pump, air con compressor, etc so they are pretty critical and they do tend to last for years so it's worth doing.
Gone are the days when you could whip the other half's tights off and tie them around the pulleys!

It is David but as everyone keeps telling us we've got to expect it for the age of the car, and no the tester wasn't there today so the service manager didn't know what he was on about though he did point the scratches out which I knew about??

Yes Jim I didn't realise how important they were so in hindsight should have told em to do it while they had it, so I have asked em for a price so might be able to get it back to em on Monday if they can do it then now we've come this far with it?

Did he explain how the scratches would be (or even COULD be) MOT advisories? Yea, I can't figure that one either. Sounds like they're talking out of their collective anus. I'd be inclined to insist that they re-issue the cert without the erroneous advisories.

Did he explain how the scratches would be (or even COULD be) MOT advisories? No but apparently my daughters chap had the same thing happen on his Fiat a few years ago, his were just small rust patches that they pointed out on his MOT, but the scratches on this Rav are showing no signs of rust as it hasn't gone through to the metal but I will ask when I phone em Monday. The advisory says minor scratches and bumps but as I've said I can't see any bumps apart from a tiny ding from another car door by the looks of it??

I wonder if he was talking about damage underneath? Do you know if It's been off-road?

I wonder if he was talking about damage underneath? Do you know if It's been off-road? I haven't a clue David if it has or not but as I've said underneath looked tidy to me from what I could see from lying on the floor so whether the bumps were spotted while up on the ramps I don't know but will ask. How often should the Auxillary belt be changed as this Rav was serviced 3k miles ago by the previous owners local indy garage.
