Well it's been nearly thirty hours since our job and both are feeling well i'm glad to report apart from that which shouldn't be mentioned where the needle went As for the SA strain just seen on Facebook that two cases have already been found over here, one in Nottingham and one in Chelmsford, so that's Christmas had it again if it is as bad as been made out??

Every new strain that has come along has been hyped as disastrous by the mainstream media; the f**kers haven't a brain cell between them as far as I can see. In any event I'd take anything I see on FB with a large pinch of salt. Even the WHO aren't getting excited by the new SA variant. Let's just wait and see.

It’s the biological experts that have pressed the red button. Can we afford to take risks ? Personally I think not. I don’t think that’s the case this time, Charlie. Chris Whitty is saying that he doesn’t believe that the SA variant is worse than the Delta strain. Even that paragon of rectitude, the WHO, is cautioning against making too much of the SA version. They both might be wrong but they have more knowledge and experience of COVID than I do so I’m prepared to give them the benefit of the doubt for now anyway 😊. Whilst I have respect for Chris Whitty I still firmly believe that all travel should stop until the facts are 100% known. Too many risks have been taken in the past some of them with utter complacency and it’s very definitely cost lives. A case has been confirmed in Europe so travel to Europe should also stop. It’s absolutely absurd to rely on people travelling from SA and around those parts to self isolate. Sadly man is far to ignorant to do that properly. One person could send the whole thing into overdrive just as it’s happened before…. Sure it’ll cost money to stop folk traveling . but it’ll cost a hell of a lot more if this thing kicks off again. That’s money. Lives are irreplaceable.

Well it’s here already……. 2 cases in different parts of the country…. Too slow again. I think it is fair to say that COVID-19 ain’t going away anytime soon. Mutations will be a fact of life for years. We’re just going to have to learn to live with it until perhaps it can be totally eradicated. I don’t think that we can simply shut the country down every time there’s a possibility of a much more virulent strain arising. The economy couldn’t survive it and, as events proved last week on the continent, people simply won’t put up with it.

Jim my point is that while the virus has mutated many many times this version is causing quite some concern, Quite unlike the previous mutations most have which have not even been mentioned. Im not suggesting that we shut the country down I’ve never said that. But when the threat increases which it clearly has this time then travel should cease and fast, The economy comes second to lives Is that what your saying ? In my world life comes before money. Very few dead people can spend their money. Our government’s have learnt nothing have they ? Flights are still coming out of SA until the deadline passes. Flights full of people who could be carrying a version of the virus seemingly several times worse than the original that took 149,000 lives and counting, Complacency has cost far to many lives as it is. Our idiot governors should be proactive not reactive,

Our idiot governors should be proactive not reactive, AFAIK travel with SA has already been suspended as SA was the first country to notify the variant, with other neighboring countries being stopped tomorrow. Does the economy trump lives? The quick simple answer is no, of course not. But I think that the situation is much more complicated than that simple question indicates. The early reports suggest that the SA variant isn’t any more virulent than previous mutations but it presents differently, i.e. no cough or loss of taste, etc but it provokes exhaustion and lethargy which only lasts a few days. If those reports are true (and they are attributed to the SA doctor who initially spotted the variant and reported it) and current vaccines are able to deal with it, new restrictions may be premature.

But there we go Jim believing what we hear on the news etc… According to BBC news this morning flights haven’t stopped from that region yet. But those on the flights coming in are to quarantine… Yeh right just like last time……. People were coming back from Europe and were walking straight through customs hardly believing they weren’t being herded away to some hotel…. Our government thick as they are along with most European countries governments ain’t running round like headless chickens for nothing. This unfortunately stinks…. Premature restrictions? ? Try telling that to the families of of the nearly 150.000 who’ve died in this country alone. See me I like money. Always one to chase a few quid …….. But I like my family to be healthy far more. 👍👍

Up here in sunny Glasgow, we were privileged (plagued) with thousands of politicians, civil servants, hangers-on, protestors who arrived by their own planes/boats/walking to attend a COP26 event for 2 weeks. We had polis staying in a racecourse for 2 weeks (unsure who won). As I believe, the attendees of the event (30,000) may have had their temperature checked; may have had a lateral flow test which doesn't test for the new variant as we await Boris's pal to make a new one. We didn't go near the place. In fact didn't go into the centre of Glasgow 9 miles away....it would've been daft to mingle with folk who care more about global warming in year 2100 than the elderly folk here who'll not see 2040.
So all the electric cars provided to take VIPs to Gleneagles had the benefit of diesel generators at the hotel to get them back to the event next day. Biden had dozens of helpers in his motor cavalcade, flown in specially to Prestwick Airport (probably all untested) and we worry about the new variant getting into the UK...too late...it must've been here 3 weeks ago. (now quickly puts mask back on in case someone sends me a virus)

It seem as the this last variant is not as bad as though. I look at Dr John Campbell on YouTube, he has a daily report on issues related to this virus. In his report today he quotes South Africa doctors claiming that cases in vaccinated people are quite mild. More data is needed, but this is a first impression.

I hope I haven’t sounded too much like a doom monger but when you have a very vulnerable person in the house you tend to take the serious side…. We/I have too. We have most of our shopping delivered. I’ve been having it dropped in the annexe where I’ve wiped everything down carefully before extreme sanitising my self before taking the stuff in the bungalow… Over the top ? Maybe but I do my best ….It’s been a tough time for everyone. If I’m honest I’ve found it bloody hard….. So when we get these things pop up it ramps up the pressure. Stay safe guys and your families 👍👍

Stay safe guys and your families 👍👍 I do understand you. We used to do all this - if someone went shopping we washed and sanitised everything, and the person that did the shopping had a change of clothes and a shower. That was in the early days. We usually relied on my daughter as she reads the scientific articles rather then newspaper. According to her, we know more on this virus now and the transmission is only by air and it is very unlikely it will survive on packaging for any length of time. Fruit and veg should be washed anyway. I am not trying to tell you what to do - you should do whatever makes you fill safe, just offering another view. I do admire your perseverance!!! Stay safe
