Quick question if you have had the vaccine did you have any side effects? My wife had her second jab a few days ago from work but she experienced a lot more pain and grogginess in comparison to the first jab. Only lasted about 48 hours so nothing to worry about but just wandering if anyone else had the same.

Only lasted about 48 hours so nothing to worry about but just wandering if anyone else had the same. Our daughter had her second last week. With the first she had terrible side effects and was laid up in bed for nearly a week. With the second however she only had very mild flu-like symptoms that only lasted a day or two.

The reaction seems to vary wildly from person to person. Reputedly a second stabbing with PB is likely to have a stronger reaction than the first, while with AZ it is supposedly the other way around. Or at least that's what my mum was told as she had her second. She reported mild to no side effects that she could determine. Younger people appear to get a stronger reaction than older people ... With my first jab with PB I had quite a sore arm the first night and felt pretty zonked the second day but otherwise nothing to worry about. My second stabbing is due Wednesday afternoon so I'll report back then - if I'm feeling up to it! As an aside, I received a letter on Saturday inviting me to come on Wednesday and a 'text' this morning inviting me to come tomorrow (Tuesday)! I 'phoned up to ask which they wanted me to attend and cancel the other appointment - I really wouldn't want to go down as a 'no show' - and it would appear that I'm not the only one getting 'mixed messages' ...

Sounds about the same as what most people have been experiencing. I think it’s going to be a regular thing like the flu jab. Someone else mentioned getting different messages to come and get the jab too but there’s was due to people not turning up and offering them an earlier opportunity. Glad your daughters made a good recovery Jim I recall you mentioning it before. Also good to hear more people are taking up the jab now as there is a load of misinformation out there too which is quite annoying.

Similar to most of the above.
AZ. Jab No.1. Slightly sore arm and "heavy cold on the way" like symptoms the following day ("fuzzy" head / feeling slightly imbalanced, but without the snotty nose). 24 hours only. Frankly, would be happy to put up with feeling like crap for several days, if it provides a decent level of immunity.
Possibly an apocryphal tale from an elderly person I know, who claimed they always get a very bruised arm from such things and stated as such to the NHS "stabber". The "stabber" on this occasion, claimed it was mostly due to the skill of the "stabber" and that said elderly person wouldn't get a bruise from them applying the "stabbing".......and allegedly that's what happened. No bruise, no soreness.

All five of us have now had the first AZ jab with myself second eldest and youngest daughter suffering with symptoms about twelve hours later lasting about 24 hrs though i did have the runs and bad headache a few days after that, i thought i was clear but still have headaches during the day which the docs said is normal and lasts a few weeks?? Mrs P and eldest daughter had no symptoms at all. Re the stabbing i was the only one that didn't feel a thing not even the scratch they said i would feel, didn't think i had had it.

All you oldies having jabs! Come to Scotland and be young again (at least as far as the vaccine rollout goes).
Apparently younger people have a greater reaction typically as their Antibodies are more active. I am sure a lot of the difference in reactions is also due to the skill of the injector - When I gave blood, sometimes there would be no reaction and other times would have a large painful bruise - and the only difference would be the way the needle was put in.

Similar experience here Philip. I was just opening an invitation letter that I received in the post when the phone rang. It was my GP's surgery inviting me to have a vaccination there! I accepted the GP invitation and rang the number on the letter to tell them what was happening. Apparently at that stage ( end of January / beginning of February ) there were local invitation systems as well as the National one. My first thought was that this is a bit wasteful but I now think that was probably a good scheme at the time as it probably got more people through the two systems when it really mattered. Still waiting for an invitation for my second helping of vaccine. I guess it will be any day now. The only after effects of the first PB jab was what felt like a bruise on my arm. Only lasted a couple of days.

Got letter so logged on to book. What a palaver. Which centre would you prefer? The nearest one :TU: Choose your time from those available - yup done that. OK book your second dose on 'X' date twelve weeks hence, would you like to use the same centre? Well yes. Choose a time from those available - yup done that. OK, please confirm. No problem, press confirm. Ah, sorry your first appointment date/time is now no longer available, please start again............. Took three attempts to get mine sorted and four for Roserav. AND they were/are at two different centres on different days for each of us. Mentioned this to the midwife who painlessly administered my first jab and she told me that, had I used the phone number on the letter it would have been so much easier and likely to have been far more logical with the appointments.
All that being said, vaccination centre organisation, volunteers and professionals on site totally brilliant. Have both had first dose of Astra Zeneca vaccine and felt groggy after a few hours. Lasted about 24hrs then nothing. Roserav [same vacc.] groggy for about 36hrs.

We had 1st AZ mid Feb. Wife had sore arm for a few days. I was flattened for 3 weeks and co-codamol for pains. Not been 100% since so had to partake of a brandy or 4. Cold weather hasn't helped. Due next in mid May..no date and have to wait for letter. Brother in law had AZ start Feb and was diagnosed with DVT in one leg last week. Now on blood thinners. Never seen a doctor for decades and never been on meds, other than Guinness. He's also confused but this seems to be getting better since starting the blood thinners. He is 76, and doctors were amazed at his record of never seeing a GP, nor taking medicines.

Best add my 2p worth then. I'm 61 and had the AZ jab 3-4 weeks ago. No side effects at all. Had the flu jab a couple of months previously and also nothing. it's very strange the different outcomes.

I had the AZ jab a week ago and had no side effects to note , just woke up thirsty in the night. A lot of younger lads at work managed to get their first jab at the same time due to a high percentage of cases in their area and they all suffered with side effects including hot sweats and sore arms.
