Everything seems ok in terms of showing speed, reverse and handbrake signals but the next screen was showing the GPS screen and the time and other info didn’t seem right his is the unit from the 4.2 and the original unit is showing this same screen Did you have the GPS antenna connected? On the face of it, it looks as if it does not receive any signal. The GPS antenna normally has an amplifier inside, and if that stopped working (either faulty or not supplied with power), you will not receive anything.
M.
Yes it was connected. I drove around for about half hour too the speed was showing up and everything else that Andy mentioned. I think it’s definitely the aerial as it was the same on both units. There’s some on sale on flea bay I’ve ordered one and will see what happens when that arrives

So the fact you see speed is good, as it seem the unit is somehow functional. Be aware that it might be the supply from the unit to the antenna. Hope new antenna will just work.

I’ve got a nearly new Garmin Satnav that I bought in the spring while my Mazda was in the bodyshop. I’ll sell it for £65 inc delivery if anyone wants it. Lifetime maps and traffic installed.

SHCM posted this on how to access this screen here is usually a display mode that will tell you the number of GPS satellites that are being received. That will tell you whether the GPS antenna is working. The antenna on the 4.3 is just above the middle vents, under that dash. Most Toyota sat navs, when they come up from a full reset, will not move from a displayed position, until they have seen pulses from the wheel speed signal, even if they are receiving valid GPS data. Therefore, it may not necessarily be the GPS antenna. With the accessories powered on, you can put the unit into test mode in two ways. Either: While pressing and holding the "INFO" switch, operate the light control switch: OFF → Turn ON → Turn OFF → Turn ON → Turn OFF → Turn ON → Turn OFF. or Press the "DISPLAY" switch. From the display quality adjustment screen, touch the corners of the screen in the following order: upper left → lower left → upper left → lower left → upper left → lower left. From there you can find screens that will display GPS sat signal strengths and if you drive the car, will show whether the speed input is working.

I used the first method by keeping the info button pressed and turning the side light switch on and off a few times and that will bring you into a menu that you can select for different things. To get out of the menu I did the same sequence and it reboots the unit back to normal

I did a very poor video of the numbers changing as I presumed it sync'd to satellites but no idea how to upload it.

Ok, thanks for that really appreciated. Looking at yours the bottom line is showing “3D” where as mine says “NG” no idea what they mean though 😳🤦🏻♂️ and lookimgfurther down yours is showing the correct time and date and also your longitude and lattitude where as mine is incorrect. Not sure but I’m thinking it’s definetly my GPS aerial now as mine doesn’t seem to be picking anything up. Andy mentioned the pulse signal and its showing all that up and I drove it about on the menu screen which was showing pulses and speed but it still never picked up on the correct location. Thanks you for the photo really appreciated 👍🏼

It's almost certainly the antenna. I just didn't want you going off down the wrong road (see what I did there?) , before you'd checked the speed input (yes, it is a pulse waveform, derived from vehicle wheel speed), which you have now done.
I've had several Toyota sat nav units of varying generations operating on the bench (and repaired one). While they will happily display the correct GPS position information while powered on the bench & with a GPS antenna attached, after first power up, they will not update your position shown on the map display, until some wheel speed pulses have also been seen.
As you'd effectively reset the unit by pulling the power, it was sensible to just check the speed input before concluding it was the antenna.

It was the GPS antenna had a new one fitted. I didn’t bother pulling the old one out I disconnected the old one and just fitted new one in. It locked on straightaway and did the speed check by a quick drive and it locked on virtually straightaway. I’m really surprised that it failed though I would’ve thought it’s aometbing that’s unlikely to breakdown. Thanks again all for the advice 😊😊😊 (yes I did see where you went with the “wrong road@)

Excellent result! The gps antenna has an amplifier inside, and being an electrinic device it can go wrong... it is rare for it to happend especially after that long (there are bigger chance to go wrong when new) but it does. Enjoy the new direction...

Enjoy the new direction... If I’m honest it’s very rare I use it as If needed I use Waze on my phone which is great with the live updates but I get really frustrated if somethings not working as it should be. 😊

If it's not updated (like mine) I find myself driving across fields & the amount of new estate roads or one way systems it doesn't know about is getting to the point of it's worthlessness. I keep looking at the Android replacements for it.

Waze relies on 'crowd sourcing ', and as such, the more people use it, the better the information you have. In countries that most people uses it it works very good, but as any software, treat it with caution. Gps navigation is not gospel. ..
