hi al
after getting the rav through the mot with 300 quid of welding and a few advisories about rust underneath i think its time consider a change. i had thought about it before but all was well so i left well alone.
budget is around 15-16k
choices..... another RAV 4x4,seat atecca 4x4,tiguan 4x4,skoda karoq 4x4. suzuki vitara 4x4
a few things to consider...mileage is low 4-5k a year so diesel may cause DPF problems.
some ( vw group)but not all are only avaialble in petrol 2.0 for a 4x4
what do id o......had the rav 10 years now and it owes me nothing, but its decision time.
suggestions ? i have viewed all these but not test driven yet.

I love our 4.5 but am drawn to the Yaris X. We could just about live with the reduction in size although I’d have to try one again to see how the driving position suits. It seems to be a a really good car.

Really depends on the size of car first and foremost ? Me Id have a Yaris Cross but its half the size of our requirements. Later RAV4 is the obvious choice .. Most on your list are VW products but the more I look at them the less I like. I had that wee GTI and that gave more problems than our IQ and the Rav in the short time I had it. All silly things but still irritating. Fabulous interiors and nicely screwed together but niggly problems seem the norm.

hmm ok a petrol 4x4 rav was looked over but the gargae was shut, not so sure about the interior design on the ravs they appear to me to be a bit odd! looks like i need to get in one and have a drive if i can find one in my £ to try, prefer a garage for warranty issues. looked at aour local toyota this pm, cheapest 2nd hand was 28k lol

What about a 4.4? Never had one myself but I only hear good things about them and the later ones come as hybrids so the economy is good.

I love our 4.5 but am drawn to the Yaris X. We could just about live with the reduction in size although I’d have to try one again to see how the driving position suits. It seems to be a a really good car. Well guys, I have a confession. Last April I traded my 4.3 in for a Yaris Cross Excel iAWD. I really liked the car and was getting used to my first automatic and how to get the best fuel consumption from it. In the middle of November I was side swiped by a BMW on my way to visit an elderly friend in hospital.
An interesting experience! The side airbags went off and the car was spun through 180 degrees. When everything came to a standstill and I'd checked that all my limbs etc were still attached at the right points, I looked around inside the cabin and was delighted to see no apparent damage. At this point a voice came out of the speaker near the internal light and said "This is Toyota assistance, do you have a problem, do you need fire, police or ambulance?" As I was on my own, this was incredibly reassuring. I started to tell Miss Toyota where I was. She said that she knew exactly where I was and did I need the emergency services? I opted for police who arrived in a few minutes. The policeman called an ambulance since I was shaking quite violently. Not sure exactly which planet I was on at this time, but I said to the policeman "hang on a minute, I need to get the car moved". "Don't worry, I'll sort that out was the reply" He was as good as his word, which was a further reassurance. I'll skip the A&E session ( nothing wrong after an X-ray )
Next day ( Sunday ) I rang LV Insurance and was again treated in a really kind way by the lady I spoke to. Her bottom line was "You walked away and it was only a metal box, we'll sort it" After the Insurance Engineer had inspected the damage he rang me and told me that the estimate for repair was £19,600 and that he regarded as a conservative estimate. As this was more than 50% of the car's value and it was only 7 months old with 4000 on the clock, they would supply me with a new one! He valued the car at £28,600 which I thought was very fair. It turned out that they could not find a replacement, so I opted for a cash settlement. I found out that a new version of the Yaris was due in the second quarter of 2024 but the AWD version would not be available until June at the earliest. After a fair amount of thought, I've ordered a Lexus LBX Takumi E4 AWD with a predicted delivery of April 2024. The dealers haven't even seen one yet but expect to have one in their showroom in February. At that point, I would be able to test it and confirm my order or get my deposit returned.
So, a pretty exciting six weeks!!!!!!
I'f I could have obtained a replacement Yaris in the same spec as mine and in a reasonable timeframe, I would have taken it without a second thought, but a six month wait at my age seemed like a bit of a gamble, hence the LBX which is almost identical to the Cross but with a slightly more sophisticated engine.

All’s well that ends well, as they say, Chris. The main thing is that you walked away unscathed. Nice new car to look forward to but what do you drive in the meantime?

glad to hear everything turned out ok for you.
but a yaris AWD is a bit out of my price range and a bit small for all the shooting equipment i lug around.
would i be advised to take my thinking about mileage/petrol/diesel as correct and go for a petrol? or could i get away with a diesel which i would prefer.
not interested in base models but would like a few toys inside, are there any known issues with the 4.4 petrol/diesel that could catch me out ?
thinking invinsible model

A Cube Katmandu Pro electrically assisted pedal cycle Jim. I'm losing weight, even taking into account Christmas and feeling quite fit. I didn't pay the extra on my insurance for a long term hire car so ended up with a Corsa for two weeks from Enterprise. Not sure how they maintain their cars but the windscreen wipers were cream crackered and it kept going into limp mode for no apparent reason. I also needed tyre levers to get in and out, so, If I'm honest, I was glad to take it back.

I'll let you know my impressions of the Lexus as soon as I get my hands on one Jase. I think it's the only Lexus that you can buy that falls below the £40k VED penalty level - and that is only just! As they say around here "they don't put pockets in shrouds". ( Note to self: I wonder if I can order a special one with pockets? Check Amazon in the New Year. )
