Having decided the car is staying, i need to change thr front disks and pads. From what I have seen, it is not such a complicated job and i definitely have the skill (well, at least I think so). I read that the recommended ones are either Pagid or Brembo. What do you guys recommend getting beside the kit (disk, pads and replacement clips)? What type of grease do i need? Do i need brakes cleaner? Many thanks.

I have used Pagid parts with no complaints at all. The discs come with a silver grey coating that is worn off in use - the discs are not grease coated so don’t need cleaning prior to fitting. I do clean up the callipers with a small wire brush and apply a dab of CERATEC brake grease to the pad ‘horns’ and the channel they slide. Also a smear on the back of the pads too. Anchorman has posted a very helpful guide for the job. link forum.rav4driversclub.com/thread/90/rav4-replace-front-brake-discs

If they are nice and free, clean, a thin coat of Ceratec and reassemble. Any corrosion or damage to the boots, replace them. Oh, and the pins are not all the same length so note which hole fits which pin. Go on then, ask me how I found that out

I wish you lived closer I would happily help you do that job. It’s simple and straightforward. Though I would likely irritate you with how OCD I am with cleaning and greasing. Take pictures as you take it apart if you have any doubts. Concur with the others on what brand and type. 👍👍

Thank you for the offer! Will take pictures to be safe ( always does it, even for myself). Looked around, Brembo is more common at the moment so will probably go for them. Thank you!

Looking to order disk+pads. Some places say i need a diameter of 296mm, but Brembo web site say i need 328mm. ( i have not measured...) Any idea? Thx
Also, has anyone used 'buycarparts.co.uk'? They have a very attractive price for those. Thanks again!

Measured: 296mm. It seem that the 18" wheels are using the same as the 17".

Ordered from carparts4less. Challenge is on ( to assemble them)
As for the company i mentioned above ' buycarparts' i searched a bit - they have a front here in the UK, but the shop is actually in Germany. This may not be a problem, but if you need to send parts back, you will need to send them to Germany! Also from reviews their customer service is non existent and getting refund is impossible. I decided not to go there.

Parts arrived last week, but we decided to give the van its first test ( that will be in another post). Took the plunge today to change the disks and pads. Sorry, no pics as it is a messy job and did not want to wash my hand every stage , but i followed the instructions from David and they are very accurate! All went smoothly with no issue. The pads came with their own shims but i took those off (are they useful for anything?) And installed the old ones. All seem to work! Thank you very much for all the help, especially the instructions!
