Thanks for the replies folks but i have a little more info now. Mrs P thought the chrome circle around the socket was part of the plug and she said she did try pulling that out when the plug had broke, so depending on how hard she tried getting that out could she have caused any damage to the socket. Also that bit of plastic David noticed seems to have gone now. Re the plugs i am using, the one that's springing out now is what i use when we go out and i use Google maps with the phone and use to charge the phone so that has always worked. The other is a twin socket adaptor that plugs into the ciggy lighter and that fits perfectly still but there is no power going to it as there is a cluster of lights on the front which aren't lighting up?? A new piccy of the inside showing the plastic bit gone and the outer chrome circle Mrs P tried pulling out.

Try plugging it into your PC. 😊 That's how i tried it Jim  when you tried it on the PC, Paul, did you use a different usb cable to the one that powers it in the car? I’m wondering if any of the cable connections were damaged when the plug was pulled out of the socket.

I’m wondering if any of the cable connections were damaged when the plug was pulled out of the socket. Yes Jim it's a separate lead with the USB connection to plug into the lappy. I have now taken the old lead out the Rav that connected the Dashcam. According to the fuse board map the cigarette lighter fuse is No19 on the panel under the dash which is fine by the looks of it? So if it's not the fuse what else could it be, is the cigarette socket Kapput

Have you actually tested the fuse Paul? Maybe swap it with another of the same value just to be sure.

Any road thanks once again for all your help :TU:

Possible that, as the plug fell apart and any metal parts dropped into the bottom of the socket, both the socket and dashcam were shorted out I guess. That would certainly blow the fuse.
