End of the story, for now: Was looking all around the country... With the 'updated' budget... Found a nice Honda Jazz, 62 plate with VERY low mileage, but by the time i called it was gone (seen it in the evening, phoned next day at 10:00). On with the search, found a nice 61 plate, with a bit more milage (50K), phoned them up and had to put a refundable deposite. This is from a main Honda dealer. Went yesterday to see the car, and it looked good, so bought it. Got it today and drove it back home - it is very nice, so for now happy with it, and so is my daughter. It comes with one year Honda warranty and one year AA. I really like that model of Jazz and that colour. That will make a great replacement.

Can’t say I’ve driven a CVT in recent years …how does it drive compared with traditional automatic like the Corolla ?

Can’t say I’ve driven a CVT in recent years …how does it drive compared with traditional automatic like the Corolla ? I drove an earlier 2008 one, and it was revving up all the time. I did not like the drive in it at all. I read that there was an update somewhere 2010-2011 and it suppose to be better. So, the current one has a 1.4L engine, very quiet and very pleasent to drive - what a difference! If you drive with no rush, the engine will not go above 3000rpm, and it will accelerate gently. Motorway speed of 70mph and it is around the 2000rpm. If the accelerator pushed harder, revs will go up to 4500rpm and of course will accelerate faster. There is stage above that if you push more. In addition, there is a sports mode where it will accelerate faster and rev up accordingly. In Drive mode, there are also puddle shifter where you can use 7 gears. All in all, a very pleasent drive, very quiet and very smooth - no fuss just go. Also, fuel consumption is excellent! Averaged 58mpg on the 40 miles drive home. Ps, the corolla was not auto, my daughter was very hapy with manual, it is her boyfriend (now fiancée...) that does not get along with manual.

She met him just before our tragedy, he had the option to run away when it happened, he did the opposite, and has not left her alone. He lived with us during the last 2 years ( he is very nice). Definitely a keeper! I would not have done the effort otherwise.
