Thanks for that , had local garage looked at it today he said he didnt have the capability to test the fuel pressure etc. so I need to find a capable mechanic/garage Im trying to avoid Toyota for cost reasons. It was running perfectly fine then one morning just would not start ,turning over fine but would not fire up , got it to cough and splutter with easy start but couldnt sustain it , any help or advice would be most appreciated

found a garage that said they would have look , he said it looks like the fuel pump (engine driven)he changed that and bingo back on the road , alas only for a day then it broke down again with the same problem cranks but no start , the garage are sayng its the fuel rail thats causing the problem so hats the next step unless anyone can think of anything else it could be , it would be most appreciated

I had the same problem. I fixed it by changing the 4 injectors and the suction control valve. It was a diesel specialist that found it.He said that he checked them one by one and said that they were not operating as they supposed to. After a year or so, the same problem appeared again, only this time was the starter that had to be replaced(after all the abuse). It has been almost two years now since i have change the injectors and besides some egr issues everything is good.
