I would say that that is very unlikely to happen and actually could be seen as illegal (there used to be maximum wage policies in Football a long time ago which had to be removed). What I think might be the case is that there is a team budget cap which will be in place very soon. That was agreed to exclude Driver Salaries however, and I would not be surprised if there was not an actual cap on the drivers pay, but anything paid above a certain amount (like this $30M talked about) has to come out of the team budget.
$30m for a single driver? sure is a hell of a lot of money but I bet Hamilton, Verstappen, Vettel and Alsonso next year will all earn more than that including external sponsorship deals - and none will be the best paid sportsmen by any means.

I think most top professional sports people earn far too much, granted they tend to only be in the sport for a limited time so they need to establish a future, and you can't tell me that a lot of the drivers live in places like Monaco just for the scenery.. $$$

Some of the lower teams only take drivers who take money to the teams. F1 is all about the coin now. Big budgets mean more points equals more money.

It is just so crap now isn't it. Purely money, no excitement, no competition, nothing.
Don't even bother with the highlights on C4 anymore.
How can those in charge not see they are killing the sport??

It could be that George Russell ends up without a drive because of this, Latfi has been confirmed because Daddy ploughs loads of money in, yet has never beaten Russell, Perez also brings huge amount of money with him so I can see him ending up there if nothing better comes along. Stroll Jnr is only keeping his seat as Stroll Snr bought the team for him, again Perez has beat him hands down for the last 2-3 years.
