For the little MX5.
Any recommendations. Don't mind splashing a bit of cash for something top notch.
Have ummed and ahhed about an outdoor carcoon but think it might be a bit too much of a faff. Still want to use the car on those cold but crisp sunny winter days.
Long term think we're going to attach a carport to the garage. But that will be next summer now.

I had a quality cover on my Celica-Supra 2.8 some years ago but it still damage the pipework, it’s the flapping in the wind it beats the paintwork and marks it(and it was securely strapped down) . Also don’t used a cover if you’ve had any recent paintwork done it can cause micro blisters . If you have space the one above makes more sense or just get a half cover to go over the roof area .

How I wish there was a useable viable cover Clarki as I would love one for my MX which is parked under a carport all of the time. Apart from the scratch damage none of them dissipate the moisture.

I’m about to remove all four brake discs from my MX5...... I replaced them all along with the pads and reconditioned callipers around 16 months ago.
I bought and fitted Pagid as I hoped the unswept area's and the hubs which are painted would not corrode. But it’s just starting to show so off they will come and be painted properly to stop that unsightly rust. They haven’t yet done 700 miles but discs rust up from the moisture in the air ...
My question is is there anything i can coat the disc faces with as the car will sit under the carport till gawd knows when.
I taxed the car only 3 months ago and put it back on SORN yesterday as it won’t get used again till next springtime .

IIRC discs come coated in GEOMET to prevent them from rusting in transit, on shelves etc.

Im not bothered about the muck grime and moisture on the car it’s the wheels and brakes that I would like to keep pucker 👍👍👍👍👍

We live on the coast. Like ON the coast. So its a fairly harsh environment. Particularly in the winter. Only real benefit is don't really get any frost.
I think the carcoon may end up being the answer.

Does the car need to be capable of being moved whilst laid up Charlie? If not, why not put it on stands, take the wheels off to store inside and wrap the brakes with some desiccants inside the wraps?

I might need to get the trailer out from the workshop which is behind the car port. 👍👍👍 Cant find Geomet paint or spray..

www.carcoon.com/carcoon-double-skin-outdoorA few videos on you tube of people using them are worth a look for info. Price is low at the moment. Coming down almost weekly. Like the idea of the inbuilt trickle charger you get with it.

Thanks Andy... I couldn’t see a button on that page that tells me where I can buy from... Maybe it’s available on Amazon or Ebay. Gotta be worth a try 👍👍👍

Like the idea of the inbuilt trickle charger you get with it. Not against the idea but I think the winds up here would knacker one of those. Not exactly cheap either. I think I will try and find Andys product for this year as I’m extending my workshop next year so will have a decent dry heated area the size of 3 garages.
