Your recent Dinitrol session prompts another memory about “brake ferrules”. I had our first 4.2 professionally Waxoyl’d about 5 years after we bought it new, the thinking being that we intended to keep it long term. The first MoT after treatment an advisory was included re “surface rust on rear brake unions”. Surprisingly enough I was more than just a bit pissed and demanded to know why the tester didn’t know the difference between dust covered Waxoyl and surface rust. Although I got a bullshit apology of sorts they “regretted that the MoT certificate was issued and couldn’t be altered”. Needless to say that was the last time that dealer saw me.

Yep. But that would require a modicum of common sense.......

Although I got a bullshit apology of sorts they “regretted that the MoT certificate was issued and couldn’t be altered”. Needless to say that was the last time that dealer saw me. Similar thing with the MOT of my MX5 two years ago. The MX5 has drain tubes which exit under the car through the chassis rails. The MOT tester said he was going to have to put an advisory for surface rust under the drain tube outlets. I of course went straight under the car and I kid you not it was no more than marks where the water obviously ran down from the drain tubes. I rubbed one of the so called surface rust marks off with my finger. Tester still insisted he had to put an advisory. I went frankly ape s hit. I really lost my temper which is actually quite unusual. In the end they agreed to abort the test and I would leave….. Had the MOT been completed and submitted the advisory with the word “ corrosion “ would have been on the internets MOT history for everyone too see. That C word in the MX5 world cuts a cars value in half and also cuts the prospective buyers numbers in half also. You may remember me getting irate about it and seeking advice on what products to use. I ended up spending 4 days under that car using ( Unclebobs) Vactan rust converter / primer and the Dinitrol recommended by Don and Andy….. I scrubbed that entire chassis the subframes and every are so clean it was unreal. I then applied the Vactan rust converter more as a primer than a rust converter because there was no rust. Then 2 really good applications of the Dinitrol. Trust me that cars as clean underneath as on top and it’s not exactly tatty.

Low mileage, reasonable price, not the greatest MoT history I’ve ever seen…… and it’s black 😡😡
