This is a guide how to changing bulbs that illuminate Air/con, HRW, hazard switches and the clock .
NOTE....all shown in good faith but you do so at your own risk !
Using my car the other night I noticed the heated rear window had no sidelight/backlight illumination, had a go at removing switch but life's never easy, and the whole heater control panel is one lump and needs to be removed to change any bulbs :s_sad
Disconnect battery......
First job is to remove silver plastic trim at the sides of the radio..
..then two screws hold heater vent panel in...remove that, with a light pull....
Then radio out, this has four 10mm headed bolts, lower ones are a bit tricky to get at...and make sure you don't loose them down the back of the dash........
I've cable tied the radio out of the way....your call if you want to do the same or remove it.
Next two screws holding the heater panel in but it won't came out far, as it's restricted by the heater cables..
Two sets of wiring plugs to remove, both have push tags, the heater cables are tricky to get off , the two inner tags need to be opened with a screwdriver, and the cables pull out to the side...
Back of heater control panel, with the illumination bulbs recessed...
Now at this point you have two choices, buy bulbs from Toyota at just under a fiver each, or buy a subminiuture bulbs to fit.... if you can find any about.
This is the bulb with holder, bit tricky to get bulb out but once done fitting new one is a reverse procedure.
The above photo, it's a bulb from Maplin (top), original old bulb on left and a maplin bulb fitted in the holder on the right, I bought what look to be yellow ones and seem a good colour match.
Now the refit....
First tricky part is getting the heater cable back in,
Wiggle the silver wire back in, then pull the black outer cable past the white housing and let it slot in from the side, no need to force it in just turn the heater knob and it will pull it in place.
Then the job is a put it back as it came off, radio bolts are easy to loose, down the back of the dash , I used electrical tape like this.....
So all in all , a labour intense job for a 99p bulb  , I had it all back together in quick time, just have to wait until it gets dark now, see if my work was worth the trouble :s_thumbsup
