I purchased a 2009 RAV4 with a D4D engine, manual gearbox, without cruise control. I took a second hand one, from a RAV4 2006, and mounted it to my car. The steeringwheel was precabled and I said to myself that it's a simple plug and play, but it isn't. I installed the Cruise Control switch and the dashboard light doesn't light up.I was thinking that maybe at the acceleration pedal there must be something to replace or that the cruise control must be activated. Tips, has anyone tried to do this? I went to the local Toyota dealer and they told me that for this model you don't have to change the switch. They also told me that it will be necesary to change the soft on the ECU. Maybe they don't know what they are saying. Spoke to some guys on the North America Rav4 forum but there where sold mainly with automatic gear box and those models are full options.

Welcome to this forum pimpilie - sure you'll enjoy!
I'm amazed at your engineering skills! Having modified old RAVs in the past, I'm giving you respect for mounting a second manual gearbox on your car!! (joking).
Although I've had cruise control on other cars I've owned I have never used it so have little knowledge of how it works but would have guessed that your 10 year old car would need the sense to tell when a cruise control switch has been installed.... to be able to monitor and adjust the speed. Could there be another ecu or a software change required? There's a member on here called schm who is much more acquainted with electrics than me.

to the club. If you fill in some details about your RAV it will guide those who can help. Are you familiar with how to set the cruise control? Button on end of stalk needs to be pressed to activate and then an upward movement to set. Pull towards driver to cancel etc.

Welcom, sorry I can't help you with your Rav4 ours had CC fitted as standard, it was on the must have list when going out looking for the car before we bought it. Although I did also have a 2009 Auris, not sure if you have them over the pond, but as you say that was a plug & play, disconnected the battery, removed the steering wheel, cut a bit of trim from the cowl, fitted the switch, plugged in the cable, re-fitted the steering wheel, connected the battery & everything just worked. But it is the same switch so I would have thought it ought to work, are you sure the switch is a good one? I bought a cheap Chinese copt off Fleecebay.

I seem to dimly remember from posts gone by on this topic that there is a clutch release switch involved - i.e. if you car doesn't have one you need to fit one ... ... but, equally, I could be completely incorrect ...

That guide was effectively exactly what I did with the Auris.

Pull towards driver to cancel etc. Before my 2009 model I used to drive a 2006 model, which had cruise control, so I know how to use it. Tried to engage it but it does not work. Thanks for the suggestions though!

I did exactly like this guy, but mine didn't work. I will take the airbag out and I will make some pictures the next week!

It was from the older Toyota, the 2006 model. It worked excellent in that car
