An interesting series of Articles.
Fernando has had a bad run of luck - much of it self-made - but I can see why he got disillusioned with Ferrari and also why he though McLaren with Honda should have been a good option considering McLarens History and Hondas Racing Pedigree, both past and present (just the present doesn't seem to have filtered to F1!!). Every Year I am still surprised how badly both McLaren (the car) and Honda (the engine) have/are doing in F1 in this Hybrd era.

You have to question whether it's worth their ( Hondas ) while making much effort to development an engine type that is going to change. IMHO they came into the hybrid engine era too late and they have not caught up in the way we probably expected that they would. The playing field should be a lot more level after next year and if I were them, I'd be putting my efforts into the next generation of engines rather than the current one.

Just read the last article in the series. I don't think I've ever come across a better "balanced" piece of journalism. There is a continued thread of him accepting poor advice and you have to wonder if superb judgement on the track was matched by a similar standard of judgement of the more strategic issues surrounding his career. I suspect that LH has a better balance in these areas than any other driver. The comments about LH's off days were also very pertinent IMHO.

Something in the series (I think the last one) confirmed a thought I have always had about Michael Schumacher and why he was so succesful in just about any condition and car...
It was a comment about how Alonso would get to the limit progressively each lap to find out how far he can go; Whereas Schumacher would go past the limit and then go back to the limit. I read that and I have to say I disagree with that statement about Alsonso in that until a driver has exceeded the limit, he cannot be sure they have actually got to that limit. And that is what made Michael so good - he was not frightened of going off track in the practice and test sessions in order to see just what was possible. I don't believe the same is true of the current drivers, especially when they (the practice sessions) are all televised with lap times and driver positions on the screen, plus the commentators (at least in the UK) saying "oh, he's made a mistake" when a driver goes off-track. The only way to drive to the absolute limits you can drive to IN the race is to make those 'mistakes' when practicing to find those limits. It shouldn't be regarded as a bad thing in any way IMO but it is being portrayed as poor driving I think.

Of course the other thing that lead to Schumachers dominance was unlimited testing ... He would regularly do 2000km a day testing the car and limits at Maranello

He would regularly do 2000km a day testing the car and limits at Maranello other teams and drivers were able to do unlimited tested as well at that time so still a fairly level playing field. And the lack of testing time nowadays makes in even more important the drivers take the oportunity to push themselves to explore the limts in the practice sessions not just got round and round to try to finish higher than the others. No points on Fridays OR Saturdays.
