looks good. I would suggest you get some blue painters tape instead of that standard masking tape for future use - much much better to use and remove. I have David it's underneath the white tape as per your instructions :TU:

Thanks you David for the links however I have now ordered the G3 and pads linked to by Bob, I already have the abrasives so would what I have be good to use? Remember G3 is an AIO Polish.. It also needs lots of water misting to get it to break down. By hand it’s hopeless by machine it can be unpredictable, it’s a very dry polish and can clag on the pad in minutes causing mico marring. It really must be used with constant lubrication. There are easier polished to use. I did use it on a pad in a drill with a spray of water Charlie and thought it did a good job, I doubt I would be brave enuff to try it on the paintwork or any other polish come to that but didn't mind on the headlamp :TU:

Note to self.... Read the post Charlie yee thick idiot. .... Paul don’t bugger about with drills on or near your cars. Way way to clumsy. A moderate Silverlind polisher is not a lot of money.

No problem Charlie :TU: I used the drill as I was using a 3" pad which I thought was ok on a small item like the headlight.

Right tool for the right job ..... I was happy using the drill Charlie on the headlights, but as you say I wouldn't use it if I was to do the paintwork, you will have to give me a lesson on how to use a proper polisher

Jim if you have a scratch on a black car get yourself a tin of Satin black spray paint. Spray onto a lint free cloth then wipe across the scratch. .. Don’t worry about leaving a smear on the surface as this will come off when you polish. The plan is to hide the base coat and turn it black. Once dried say a few days carefully polish round the area right up to the scratch. This will leave a virtually permanent repair. OK the mark is still there but hidden. If you don’t get it first try repeat until its looking good. I have seen attempts using a black marker pen but that invariably turns blue. Charlie, that suggestion worked brilliantly. I smeared the black paint onto the scratches (there was a batch of them on the tailgate as if it had been opened against something in the past) a few days back, let it dry and polished it today with Meguire's Cleaner followed by Meguire's Carnauba wax. Perfect finish. Many thanks for the tip! :TU: :TU:

Would this method work with stone chips Charlie?

Would this method work with stone chips Charlie? Absolutely... i tend to fill in stone chips with genuine manufacturers paint. Always the best colour match. Don’t use cheap rubbish off ebay. fill to just below the surface. Let it dry for at least 24 hours. The paint will drop back and will be below the paint surface anyway. Next step is to fill the chip with the clear lacquer. Fill it above the surface. Lacquer will not drop back.Leave for a few days. Then I use Meguires Unigrit 4000 grade wet and dry to wet sand the areas I’ve prepared. This must be done with extreme care and almost no pressure on the paper. Then polish.... This removes the light scratches left by the paper.. It is possible to achieve a true and I mean true invisible repair. I’ve done tricky colours on bloody expensive cars and achieved excellent results. Sometimes it just doesent go so well and I do it again till I’m happy.

Paul use touch up sticks not spray paint when correcting chips. Even if you spray the paint into the lid and use that by brush it’s way to thin. Much thinner than pencil paint which has to be thin to propel through the nozzle... G3 is to aggressive. Bieng an all in one polish its aggressive out of the bottle as it won’t have broken down.
