Jeez - I should know! I fitted Dare Drifts to mine but switched to 18" and had to accommodate the larger brake calipers fitted. I'll look back on my emails. Unfortunately the guy who sold me the wheels ended up selling his workshop to Sainsburys!!

Be a bit careful with offset wheels ( or wheel spacers ) as they can put serious extra loads on wheel bearings. It would almost certainly count as a "modification" by your insurance company so it would be best to tell them of your intention. The last thing you need is to have an accident and then find out that you've no insurance.

If you look-up your precise vehicle on a wheel replacement website (e.g. mytyres.co.uk) that should give you an answer for the OEM fittment ... and I guess that the answer may well be 45 but I was only guessing your model type ...

Sorry Fella - I've just re-read your original post which I interpreted as you wishing to extend the wheel track by increasing the wheel offset. Doh!

Thanks everyone. I'm looking for a wider lower look. Yes three5, I've no plan to resort to spacers. H&R springs for the lower part. I think they're most likely 45, but I'd like to be sure. I'll maybe take the spare off later and have a look for any markings. The above link also lists the MK2 at 45, but from research I've done, mostly on eBay, some of the OE alloys were 35. I'm guessing that's more suited to the wider 235 option. Anyway, I just want to be sure where I'm starting from, so I know what to expect before wasting cash on used OE alloys. I notice the early Lexus RX300 16's were 30, might be an option.

I used 245/45/18 on one car and 225/40/18 on another. Still can't remember the offset detail but it was chosen to clear a pair of KAD brake 6-pot calipers. I did try an alloy 16" wheel years ago but it fouled the wheel arch on full lock.... obviously the wrong offset. When you go down in tyre wall size - eg 40 - then the ride becomes effin hard as the suspension is fairly stiff and the tyres provide a lot of the cushioning. On the 4.1, I believe you could go up to a 20" wheel no problem. I didn't do it as the availability of alloys and tyres back 12 years ago wasn't that great.... the Dare Drift was one of the few that would fit.
