We went for a nice drive down to Stratford Upon Avon on Saturday in the Rav hybrid and very nice it is too, needless to say Mrs P wants one but that's enough of that but about half way there she noticed an orangey symbol show up on the dash which was like an horse shoe shape. She asked me what it was and I never had a clue so started to look for any sort of manual in the usual places but couldn't find one so we just kept going expecting summat drastic to happen, but it never did thankfully. When we got there I managed to find out that it was the tyre pressure monitor saying one or more of the tyres is under inflated so we checked them and they all seemed ok, relieved it wasn't anything more drastic. We also managed to set the alarm off while just sitting it and again never had a clue how to shut it off though it did eventually some how, and then I tried to use the satnav but couldn't get past the first four digits of the post code. I did manage to get the aircon on again though :TU:

Hi Paul,
It might be too late now but if the handbook isn't in the glovebox, have you tried in the boot under the floor (with the spare/tyre inflator)? That's where BMW hide them.

Foot on brake whilst starting? And don't move the gear lever from park until it bleeps and the ready light comes on. And the foot on the brake needs pressing firmly.

It is now starting again some how?? Thanks for the replies but yes she has been starting it the same way since she's had it, in park, foot firmly on the break, also tried putting the key nearer the push button but kept getting a key symbol showing on the dash and a humming noise coming from the back?? She also said that the alarm was going off again while at work earlier today but some one said it can be switched off at a button by the interior light which she pressed and stopped the alarm from going off, but she said it started fine when coming home earlier??

Full owners manuals are available online here. You can use a 'generic search' if you don't have the VIN to hand ...

Well Paul you’ve not sold it to me a RAV4 Hybrid (or any Toyota hybrid )is the way forward.... All this electronic wizardry to overcome just to pop to the shops ☹️ Quite agree, Bob. All these electronic systems in cars are largely bloody useless, IMHO. They simply make the cars more complicated than they have to be and God only knows the environmental impact of manufacturing all these gizmos given that they are full of sophisticated synthetic materials to withstand heat, vibration, etc. My daughter has just bought a BMW 118i soft-top and whilst I generally rate BMWs, I find its level of electronics just stupid, e.g. you have to check the oil via an onboard elec system using the indicator switches - no dipstick! - and it takes a good 5 mins to get a reading. Bloody ridiculous!!! On top of that, the number of false EML warnings she has had in the last 3 weeks is daft and I blame the unwarranted "sophistication" of the electronics as all of the warnings bar one were red herrings with no codes and everything back to normal once the OBD reader was disconnected.
