So managed to get to local Kwik fit to make sure it’s the front shock and his confirmed it is so that needs to be done. IIRC a few months ago I thought the exhaust wa snaking a rattling noise and it turns out it’s the heat shield. It’s completely come off at the back part. Don’t mind getting a new one the only problem is there’s nowhere to bolt onto. The whole area where the rear bolts go has corroded away so what if any options do I have? Talking about the 4.2 here. He suggested just pulling it off but it’s there for a reason so I do want to get a new one ASAP

Years ago the heat shield on our 4.2 was rattling and when it was in for service, they suggested just discarding it so we did. Never had a problem afterwards.
Oh, it was our local usual Toyota main dealer.
I'm not sure that you can get the shield separately???

The heat shield nuts did corrode off earlier models. If you found somebody inventive enough, they’d find some way of attaching a new one although the exhaust might have to come off to do it. Oh and Ash, what did you expect Kwikfit to say about your front shockers?

Ash.......Kwik Fit fitted a massive bliddy great Jubilee Clip over Maureen's heat shield to hold it on aboot three years ago, so nae need for boltification. Passed MOTs no bother since.....bunged the guy a tenner.......great idea.

I think the heatshield was discarded on at least one of my RAVs before the move to 3SGTE. Never went on fire.

Oh and Ash, what did you expect Kwikfit to say about your front shockers? To be honest I don’t bother with them it was the only place open at the time. I was expecting them to say need all shocks replacing, tyres, brake pads and discs too 😂😂😂 I try and stay away from them unless it’s an emergency. Oh and the exhaust too but thankfully he said only the shock......But must be changed as a pair 😊

Thanks for all the advice everyone. I’ll see if they can just pull it off then if it’s nit going to cause any issues. If the cost is anything like the brake disc dust cover then it can definitely come off. IIRC it’s something like £500 for one of them 🤯 I’ve dropped Kingo an email for a price see what he says.

For what it be worth, mins......yonder Heat Shield thingy.......probably more relevant to petrol fuelled Ravs, but is it not there because the fuel supply pipe passes along car's underside at this point......? If a daft question, try to bear in mind WHO is asking it please.........

We’re away till the weekend so will get it to a garage then.
