I have a rav4 with run flat tyres ( which have a steel band)z
I live in Rugby, Warwickshire. I am unable to find a garage who can take the tyres off and remove the bands.
I have a nail in the rear nearside and also the tyres are getting close to the 2 mm tread mark.
Any advice please

Previously discussed here though finding equipped dealers / tyre services is only going to get more difficult over time. Your local Toyota dealer should help find someone who can deal with the BSR system - after all they put them on in the first place!

I had mine taken off by an independent tyre fitters. He just cut the old tyres off and used an angle grinder to take the bands off. Cleaned the wheels up new tyres on and that was the best thing I could’ve done. The sensors still work too but you can have that turned off by following the link Phillip has posted in his reply Try some local independent places it took about an hour to have all four taken off on our Rav. I’m not brave enough but if your handy with DIY you could probably do it yourself Here’s a link to a YouTube video on how to remove them but it’s in French

It takes about 2 minutes to get it off but you have to destroy the tyre. Break the beads first then stick a bread knife through the side of the tyre and cut round the whole circumference on both sides. The other bits of the tyre will drop off. Then just get an angle grinder and cut the support ring off.

"Runflats you are pish, so Big Kev has his wish....." This will bring you everlasting luck, and also your Rav will feel and sound like a new car with that heap of CARTELLED EQUIPMENT REMOVED. Believe it or not, Toyota dealers used to charge £180.00 per "special tyre" AND charge for the use of their now defunct masonic machinery that removed them. Tyres were in NO WAY SPECIAL, except they had a runflat logo on them. Biggest fiddle ever on tyres.......and welcome along to this nub of us clutters.

Yes, in fact, if you buy a new Bridgestone replacement tyre for none runflat use, it still has the runflat logo on it.

Hope not making this up, Don, but seem to remember on Tumbleweed Forum a less scrupulous tyre dealer, who had been stupid enough to put in Toyota's Rip Aff Machine (TRAM....) was selling off tyres with Runrat Logo on them much cheaper than he wanted for them when the famous con cartel was in full swing. Also remember that Charlie proved a modicum of insurance concern re using said logo tyres on non-equipped wheels.....? Sellers.......bite the bullet.....change all tyres to some likesy Yokohamas and marvel at the difference. IMHO, Bridgestone tyres, Runrats or not, are amongst the worst oot there for road noise......last well, boisy nuggers....... STOP PRESS......JIST REMEMBERED.......The actual Bridgestone Tyre Ref Number was exactly the same regardless if Runrat or NOT Runrat......check tyrewall for logo and also check date code if DAFT enough to buy Bridgestone Duellers........they are mince......

A very good point there. The last Toyota (so the ONLY user of these tyres) with the BSR system would be from 2010. It is quite possible that manufacturing of these Tyres became very intermittant (if at all) soon after? So I would not be surprised to see any of these Bridgestone Tyres with the logo to be many years old - unless they have added the logo as standard to indicate that the tyres are SUITABLE for use on (as opposed to be ONLY FOR) a BSR-equipped vehicle? What new tyre to get? I understand that the Michelin Cross-Climates are now available in suitable sizes for the RAV4s now? if that is the case, that would be my go-to tyres for sure for a new set of boots.

...........plus price of the Cross Climates has softened a wee bit, David......still a good bit above normals, but on your recommendation, but mainly my sister's, I would have them.
(Sister wouldnae know a black tyre from a whitewall tyre, but raved about the CCs as soon as they went on Wee Ronnie McYaris.)

I know nothing other than the facts that the Duellers on my SR180 had the logos - including the replacement ones - and the otherwise identical Duellers on my current car do not have logos. It would be academically interesting to know whether there are new Duellers with logos available today but either way the bell has well and truly tolled for the BSR system ...

(Sister wouldnae know a black tyre from a whitewall tyre, but raved about the CCs as soon as they went on Wee Ronnie McYaris.) I had Nokians fitted on mine and they were excellent tyres too. Had really good reviews too. Best thing ever removing this BSR 💩. The drive is a lot more comfortable and with my back it was a killer driving on the originals. The 4.2 is fitted with the Dueller 💩 but hoping to change them soon. They were already fitted and I would never buy them for either Rav. Some plonker was selling the BSR rubbish recently on fleabay as if any one would buy them rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F283059716070
