Well, with my number 2 RAV covered by Adrian Fluxs breakdown; it doesn't cover the number 3 2011 RAV4 4.2 - a car bought temporarily to keep me mobile. Going to end up doing a 1000 mile round trip to England and I need to have some comfort that the car will manage the trip/survive football supporters/etc so was searching this forum for breakdown cover and aside of a dissertation on the dmf, found not a lot. On one of the compare sites, Start rescue.co.uk comes up as one of the cheapest and gives 6 breakdown recoveries a year. I assume that would be the car and not me but I put in for me as a driver/passenger so I can dump the Adrian Flux one at £55 pa in November. The quote I got is £45...
Anybody got any experience? of breakdown cover. Probably not as you all have minted cars. I've got separate cover for the fire engine given its size/weight/4 wheel drive

I have used GEM and found them good on price but haven't called them out often! They use local breakdown people and were fine when I did call them out. I have also used AA and RAC and they have also done what I needed although the RAC didn't put the cover on the front bumper back properly after removing it to fit a tow "thing" - so I had to buy a new one for the RAV (the battery had given up in Sainsbury's petrol station and I had to be towed off before a new battery could be fitted).

Just covered both myself and wife for the coming year with RAC [Been a member for 35 years]. Last year was circa £233 for myself, wife and daughter with roadside, recovery and at home. This year they wanted £236.99 plus £73 'Arrangement and Admin fee' whatever that is Phone call to them and removed daughter from cover as she no longer resides with us. Also removed 'At Hone' since we now have no need to get to work and, currently, have three vehicles at our disposal. Renewal came down to £175 ish. "How does that sound Sir"?. "Sounds like I shall be looking elsewhere". "Oh, in that case, let me see what I can do". Short wait then, "I can get it to £105.62 and freeze for renewal next year too". So, I know that I have cut the cover considerably but I decided to go with that as £1 a week each seems reasonable.

Mrs P is with the AA now and they have been pretty good except when they sold Mrs P the wrong battery a few years ago which Toyota replaced with the correct one but we did get a full refund from the AA. We was with the RAC for years and I think we called em out once but when I had to stop driving Mrs P was left with the cover but they refused to come and give assistance when she broke down once about 3/4s of a mile from home, she had to be over a mile from home as she didn't have home start, so after a short phone call I told em what to do with their service.

I am with the Toyota cover, which is done by the AA. In the UK they were brilliant when daughter called them with the Corolla problems - they arrived within 10min, started the car and followed her for about 10miles to make sure all is ok. Advantage for me, the cover Toyota regardless of age... Not sure how they are abroad.

We have RAC personal which covers both Ravs I also have tyre protect as part of the RAC package for the 4.3. Never been a problem have had 2 punctures in the last 3 years and it pays for itself. We’re paying £110 but it’s mainly the tyre protect I like Don’t think it’s availae to new customers so I just keep renewing it even though the 4.3 is covered by the AA with the Toyota warranty. I’ve had good experiences with both. I had the parts and Labour with the AA when we first bought the 4.3 and that paid for itself when the battery packed up cover was £149 and with the battery replaced again it paid for itself 😊😊😊

I'm with the RAC as part of a package from my previous employers, which gives me other benefits for a really good price, so I'm stuck with it really. I only used the breakdown cover once, just over a year ago, when my Rav decided to go into limp mode on the motorway, late at night. I should have carried on home in limp mode in retrospect, but waited for the RAC. The guy came out and as he was only authorised to take me off the motorway, dumped us off in an unlit layby, where we had to wait the best part of an hour for another recovery vehicle who took me to a garage of my choice (where I was later ripped off for about £700.00) and as we still had about 20 miles to go home, left us there to get a taxi home, which cost £25.00 - so zilch points for the RAC. My son had a similar experience and his AA recovery towed him about 70 miles to his doorstep. I've previously been with green flag, who I used three times and they were excellent. People on the caravan forum I use rave about a German based recovery firm which gives UK cover, but they use it mainly for touring Europe. It's supposed to be better and cheaper than our recovery organisations. Can't remember the name of it, but I last heard that they had stopped covering Brits - something to do with Brexit - or maybe we break down more than the the Hermans?

And you can forget ADAC as an option Yes, they are very good for service AND Value. My standard renewal in August will be €109 - includes full unlimited Euro cover, recivery, hotels, taxis, repatriation, etc for the two of us and in any vehicle. And no tedious negotiation on prices... They have a price and you either pay it or you don't. But .... They are not taking new customers from outside Germany any more, so that boat has sailed.
