Toyota are working hard to convince themselves and their customrs that they are taking the right step. I personally think it is to mask the lack of investment in a new diesel engine for a while. I had a call from my Toyota dealership, to try and convince me to 'upgrade' my car at their special event this weekend. When someone try to sell me not what i want, and convince me i am wrong, i tend to be annoyed (he tried to convince me that diesel days are gone, i should go Hybrid). Instead, at that stage i told him i am not interested whatsoever and ended the call. Shouldn't it be that the customer is always right? We , their customers want what we want and personally I can't stand being sold to ! If that shop can't supply you with what you are looking for. You shop elswhere... It's the same where I work , we don't sell everything our customers need so they shop elswhere.... 😔 Is it because it's ran by accountants? Hmmmm. Perhaps that's another topic.... Now, Jamie, play nice. Retired accountant Firemac

I've found that there's a life beyond the Rav. After much dithering, I bought a new Kia Sorento KX2 manual. Dare I say it - after a year, I think it's a better motor than the Rav - apart from fuel consumption of course. I've returned to this forum after a year's absence - missed the informative advice and banter. Welcome back..... :TU:

I would be quite interested to hear about the Kia, as it is probably one of the options to stay in the diesel world. There were in the past issues with clutches - what do you think, now you have one? Thanks M.

Yet Mazda continues to push diesel. The T180 had 400Nm of torque while my CX-5 has a 175 diesel with 420Nm. It is just about to be upgraded to 184 with 450Nm of torque.
If you want a diesel with a high powered engine and every bit as sumptuous as any German brand, have a look Charlie. My mate has just bought a new Tiguan for another 10k on top of mine and it’s like a Transit Connect inside by comparison.

I’m fence sitting for now though cos I’ve kinda dropped the ball with cars. No real enthusiasm for them.
