Calm down. I'm not planning on polishing number 2 RAV quite yet. Frightened the rear quarter wing would part from the rest of the rust. I spent an hour or more polishing 3 panels on my red fire engine yesterday. It is parked outside in my driveway and has been hit by passing pigs posing as flying seagulls. I'll need to t-cut the paint as the polish I tried didn't cut it (the bird stains). Damn hard work tho. So I'm looking for suggestions on a polishing machine as its a helluva a lot of painted panels!! I have used one years ago and managed to rub off the Renault Trafics paint layer. On the fire engine, its been re-painted red using a coach enamel which is actually quite a thick coat. Next t-cut? Fairly mild I think.
Then a polish to keep the thing gleaming during the Scottish summer (snow forecast).
I've read the post about ceramic polish - interesting....noted Menzerna so I'll ask my GP for some of that.
I have managed to buy new coach paint matched to the original - the paintwork was done perhaps about 15 years ago as it was originally Green Goddess Green....
And any suggestions for a company that would re-chrome a fire engine bell?? I could ask on the fire engine forums, but they are full of firemen and suppliers see them coming!

Not sure about the polishing aspect Ian but you must have some plating companies not too far away. Just ring round [see what I did there ]

I reckon our resident valet experts on here will tell you to remove the guano with G101 first.
Plenty of chromers in this area, just remember to tell them you are looking for a decorative chrome finish and polish.
And the next time I flash my lights at you in Bellshill Tesco at least give me a wave ya big guloot 😊

Bird s hit does not stain. It shrinks and drags the surface of the paint altering its shape. Sometimes it’s on the upper most of the surface and can be corrected sometimes it’s permanent.
This is one big reason to wax yer cars cos the bird s hit canny grip so well or easily.
On machines well any will do but the big big key is the pad and polish combination. This is the biggest component and cause of variation.
Enamel based paint will be single stage and as hard as bullets. Tcut will stain it and ruin it over time cos Tcut is s hit.

The paint is 3mm thick! So just polish it incessantly with a machine. clean pads and polish? Yes - it is single stage/coat paint. seagulls are a dying breed apparently and yer not allowed to shoot them unless they are collateral damage in Springburn. The polis don't take so much notice. Out here, the polis drive by my hoose with cameras as they don't believe some nutcase in the scheme has a fire engine. For Daves benefit, perhaps I should frequent Bellshill Tesco in the red green goddess as I tend to be more observant driving it. No power steering anda turning circle to match a Boeing 747

Be careful though cos this will have some real bite which might surprise yee..... heavy cut polish needs much lubrivation with water via a hand held water mister like yer wifee uses to mist the house plants. Without this the polish will clog up and bugger the operation big style.

Charlie......had a heart breaking task t'other day........big ex RAF, ex.Polis neighbour asked me to demonstrate my advanced knowledge of Machine Polishing on his 10 year auld Audi A8.......yep, Audi A8 FFS........blind leading the blind springs tae mind.
YE READY......? In the 8 years that he has had it, it has been regularly put through.........DRIVE THROUGH BLIDDY CAR WASHES.........ye need to see what this has done around the lower regions of this aluminium beauty, one of the few cars of this marque I would gladly own.
To cut a shong lory stort, the top coat on this thing is incredibly THICK, so some improvement was had.........being honest, only did the wan side at "first sitting".....these things are the same length as a Transvestite Van.....!! Story to be continueded.
He has now been educated as to the damage Sunscreen can dae to bodywork/ topcoat.........swirlies are easier to move than Sunscreen staining.
Point of this post.....? Some people should be banned from having nice cars........100k miles on it, 80k which he has done, almost solely on Supermarket Diesel. Ye should hear the lekky handbrakes going on.........like an elephant farting under water, min.....

Original Audi paint and by that I mean factory paint not resprayed areas require mid to heavy cut on a fairly hard pad.
