Hi all this is my first post.
I've recently bought a RAV4 2.2 2008 115000 miles on the clock . Anyway the check engine light came on so i put my obd reader on it and code p0400 showed up. Which had something to do with the egr valve so i removed it and cleaned it up but the light came back on after a short drive .So i bought a new egr valve and fitted it. However again the light came back on after a short drive the car pulls well and is running smoothly .
Am i missing something anyone else had this issue .

No expert but just wondering if there may be an electrical issue with the plug/wiring attached to the EGR?
Other more knowledgeable folk will doubtless be along later.

Another question is how do i know if my rav4 has a dpf fitted. It doesn’t. So this EGR is brand new? Well it’s not impossible to be faulty but just make sure all the gaskets, including the metal pipe. It might take a few resets but it should settle down. |

It's a brand new egr valve fitted.
Did notice after fitting the new egr it was hesitant in first gear when pulling off but not all the time.
Glad to hear my particular model doesn't have a dpf fitted.

Well took it to a independent garage and still no luck. They checked and tested the new egr i fitted and said all was working as it should. The car is still hesitant when pulling away. Any ideas lads don't want to take it to a main dealer but looking like i have no choice.

Hi rav390,
Did you manage to find the cause of the problem? Because I am having the same problem as you did.
Changed MAF and EGR(not new) but the problem stayed. P0400 is coming back after couple of days of driving after reset.
Any other Help from other member highly appreciated!

Beat me to it, Don.......at each end of ye pipe should have been a stainless steel reusable gasket......were they BOTH there....? Some eejit forgot to fit his once at the block end.....light on.......wimp mode...... Welcome aboard.....any real techy problems just phone me......ah’m usually oot......just saw the date of this.......airse...... |

Hi guys,
Just to let you know that I solved the problem with hesitation and check engine with all other VSC, 4X4 warning lamps.
The problem was wiring to the EGR. Wire bundle which comes out in front of engine from plastic cover to the EGR. Wires were stripped which caused the problems.
Was very confusing to find problem because car was running perfectly fine when MAF plug was removed which led me to change MAF first. But when installed other MAF and connect plug problem stayed.
EGR was cleaned and then finaly replaced with no luck. During that time DTC cleared many times.
Driving car for 1 month now and with no problems.
