By popular request, we now have a section dedicated to the various SUVs with Hybrid powertrains, 100% Electric, maybe Hyrdogen even? Basically those cars that are not either 100% Petrol or 100% Diesel.
It would be great if you have one of these EVs/Hybrids/Phevs/etc, to give a little brief description of what it is you actually have? so if it is Hybrid, for example, let us know just what is 'hybrid' about it. Got a PHEV? what exactly IS a PHEV? you get the picture?
Now this section I think would be most useful for discussing the features and benefits (or problems and issues) that are applicable to the powertrain of your 'new age' car. So if you have a Hybrid say, and are having an issue with the rear screen washer, continue to post that query in the previous section and keep this one focussed on those things unique or different due to the motor/batteries/etc of your car.
If you have any interesting links or videos that you would like to share, please post them up as well.

Ooh, that could be dangerous, Hoovie. Any opportunity to witter aimlessly ad nauseam about the RAV may well prove tedious. 😂😂

I have a RAV4.5 hybrid - it's just the best car that I have ever owned. I've started a thread on the Toyota Self Charging Hybrid here: forum.rav4driversclub.com/thread/2635/toyota-self-charging-hybrid

I will with your permission move that thread into this area and pin it. That precisely what I did / intended to do Charlie - post a thread in the "Hybrid, EV PHEV etc." section as opposed to continuing to add to the welcome thread ... but I'm happy for the mods to adjust things as appropriate.

I am no fan of BEVs no matter what brand they may be. I feel that the technology is not mature nor robust enough to be marketed as a viable alternative to established ICE vehicles. The range of nearly all the offerings is in no way comparable to diesels or hybrids (the RAV’s range is always nearly 500 miles at every fill) and the piss poor charging network plus the ridiculous amount of time needed to actually recharge the battery render the technology somewhat useless. On the other hand I would be prepared to see this particular example as being rare although how it was determined that the battery was U/S simply because of a scratch on the protection panel is beyond me. To my mind the battery longevity is not the issue: range itself, range anxiety and “fill up” time are, however. Until BEVs can equal ICEs in these regards I for one won’t be having one. ☹️☹️

Skipping past some of the obvious it seems that Hyundai are saying the disproportionate cost of the battery is due to that model being a loss leader which is built to lower the across the range environmental targets. We have seen this before. Aston Martin built the Cygnet for that exact purpose. Some say Toyota did the same with the IQ a car on which its rumored to have lost money on every unit . As a consumer we surely would assume that IF a battery needs protecting then the guard or defense systems kit would be up to the job. So clearly the cars design and execution is Not fit for purpose. In fact it could be reasonably argued the car is dangerous. If an impact is so insignificant it couldn't be felt and it renders the car likely to having its battery explode { Their words } then that cannot be safe to use. At some point all hybrid or electric cars will surely need a battery changing. So even if the car gets to say ten years old before needing a battery it wont make economic sense even if the battery was say 50 percent of the cars original cost. Its a truly ridiculous situation and one I reckon any half decent lawyer would have emence fun with.

i can see sometime in the near furture there being some class actions against motor companies refusing on unreasonable grounds to honour battery warranties.

But we’re at the end or near the end of the ICE age and moving into the Hybrid / Electric age whether we like it or not. The purpose of setting up this new Hybrid/ Electric / Alternative fuel section was so we can discuss the topics and keep them altogether.. Me I’m kinda stuck in the old ICE generation but I am looking at the Hybrid Yaris as the logical replacement for our IQ…. Yaris hybrid is a corker of a car and we both like and prefer the later shape so it’s hybrid or nothing. I’m still trying to understand the mechanics and looking at Phillips link to the video that carefully explains the technology really helps. Im still of the opinion this country is years and years away from even having the infrastructure to support a nation of electric cars but the hybrids are starting to look good ….. Whilst my search for a Landcruiser has been less than slow due to extreme low numbers of cars available there are 140 Yaris hybrids within 55 miles of our postcode 👍👍

I really like our current RAV, in fact I reckon it’s the best of the seven we’ve owned so far. So much so that I’ve toyed with the idea of trading it for a GRSport; but they’re ridiculously pricey. We’ve looked at the Yaris X which is a lovely thing and so economical but the driver’s leg room is too short for me. I still kinda hanker after a LC but maybe the new hybrid one will be the way to go- assuming I win the lottery!😂😂😂

But it’s wheels are big and tyres low profile which on our roads is an uncomfortable combination. I’m looking at the design which is mid level but has all the kit we want and smaller wheels. Herefordshires roads are truly atrocious…. The hybrid Landcruiser is going to be mad money and the old ones are mad money and that’s if you can even find anything worth looking at. Cars older than the one I’ve got with 100K miles and huge prices don’t appeal. 👍👍

The "Excel" is the Design with more toys and comfort. There is no longer a "top of the range" model as such ...
