Some of you may remember the Christmas Competition ran while we were on the Tapatalk Forum, and the first prize of the Jump Start Pack?
Well, that was won by Ash (Ravasher) of course, but before the competition ended, I actually had a flat battery in my Camperbus and used it to jump start it and so could also give it a test. It worked really well - and so well in fact I decided to keep the Prize I got in to send out and just ordered a brand new exact same one to be sent out to Ash direct.
Just thought I would mention this as there was some doubt about how good these can really be (and I had some doubts myself initially). I have used it a few times since then, and also used it today - which is what reminded me to post a message about these.
Actually going to rip out my old 68Ah Starter Battery tomorrow which is just not holding any charge (hence why jumping it so often) and fitting a brand new 110Ah AGM Battery I have kicking around instead which should fix the main problem once and for all, but the jump pack will stay charged and handy as never know when someone leaves the lights on or whatever!
In terms of capacity it was rated to 4L diesel or 6L petrol if I recall right - and it jump started my 2.8L Diesel this morning instantly, and so much more convienient then using Jump Leads and shuffling another car into position.
Lithium Jump Packs .... recommended :TU:  :TU:

My beef with them is you would need to keep it on charge all the time as you never know when you need it , if you charged it up and put it in a draw for two months I’m sure it would be dead or not charged enough to be any use ?

They are generally quoted to be put on charge every six months. You could set a regime to charge it on the 1st of the month every month if you want to make sure you keep on top and have a regular charge pattern. I am not sure when I charged mine last - maybe 3 weeks ago? I used it to jump since then and didn't get round to put it on charge again - it had around 79% left I think? After I used it today it was on 37% and I stuck in on charge. I will put it all in the box again tomorrow morning ready for next time.

Maybe Ash could hit the on button on his and tell us the charge remaining and when last plugged in?
PS - they all come with both Mains and 12V Chargers, so if someone was so inclined, they could leave it plugged into an 12V Accessory socket in the car so whenever the car was running, it would get a boost (although not needed with these Lithium Pack - the old style jump starter packs with a standard small wet cell battery is another matter mind - I have had two of those die on me due to not keeping on charge periodically)

Well, used the Jump Pack again today as my Starter Battery is clearly totally shagged (technical term there ) Thought I would do a bit of video to show how it works.... Point to note: at the point I connected the Jump Pack, the battery voltage was 10.7V - that is deader then a dead thing in the Dead Sea. I found the same pattern using it today as yesterday ... the first try didn't start the engine. the second try shortly after (in the video above, just one minute gap in real time) did.

Went over to my parents place today. My 86 year old father broke his ankle 2 months ago and I have only used his car once since then and he still can't drive. I tried to start it today but no go so he got one of these devices out which he had bought from a shopping channel. I was very sceptical about it. First time I tried it didn't want to know so we got the manual out to find out how to use it. (blush) Had another go and it worked straight away which surprised me if I'm being honest. Bit impressed to say the least but don't tell him!

Connect up and try to start - no good. But then try shortly afterwards it does the trick

Connect up and try to start - no good. But then try shortly afterwards it does the trick I think it was operator error in my case. There is a button saying on/off so I pressed it as you would , I then followed the instructions on the bag which says connect it to the battery and press the jump start button. Looking at the manual the on/off button is only to supply the 5v usb sockets that it has. Just connecting it to the battery and pressing the jump start was the way to use this one. It is a bolt halo that QVC appear to sell for £80. In the manual it said something about having a max of 3 attempts with a 15 second break between them but it worked 1st time when I tried not having pressed the on/off switch. There are 4 leds on it to indicate how much is left in the unit and these come on when the on/off button is pressed or the charger is plugged in.

Something that is very important to do is disconnect within 30 seconds of the engine starting. The alternator will put too high a charge voltage into the start pack.

Quality item Jase 👍🏻 I have it’s bigger brother the 2000A model 😎 ... and way overkill for starting a hybrid - but too much is usually better than not enough! A Toyota should definitely NOT be used to 'jump start' another vehicle ... conventional vehicles with 12v starter motors drawn 100s of As in order to turn the engine over; a Toyota hybrid has no such requirement and is not designed to deliver such currents (via the 12V system) so attempting to do so would be "bad" - something would probably break. We could probably use a hybrid in Ready mode to supply current in order to recharge a conventional battery over an extended period but, even then, a purpose built "jump starter" would be a better bet ...

Having read a few articles on the subject , I simply wouldn’t try to give anyone a jumpstart from the RAV. I have a CAT jump pack that does the job just fine.👍
