What does an Electric Car Fuel Tank look like?

Thought this might be of interesting to see what the equivalent of a Fuel Tank on an all-electric car looks like...


Here is a guy taking apart a battery pack from a Nissan LEAF...

Listening to the Audio is well worth doing as well (in case you tend to just watch stuff with sound down)

Battery Spec:
LITHIUM BATTERY MODULE LiMn2O4/LiNiO2
Each module contains two lithoum cells - each 3.8V 58Ah, total 7.6V, 58Ah. 440Wh per module
Measured 58.5Ah
Max continuous power 1875W or 240A
Peak current 540A

So the battery above contains around the same kind of power capacity as a typical small/medium sized car starter battery - and in the LEAF there are 48 of these batteries all connected in series.
Each battery is 440Wh, so complete pack is around 21kWh - that is around the same amount of energy released by burning 20L of Fossil Fuel.

Used price around $100, so a complete battery pack would cost around $5,000 used.


PS - Worth watching his followup video where he is installing some of the batteries - he has a very nice workshop and knows his stuff.
