Hi all. I am a new rav 4 owner.

I purchased the car from my friend and it belonged to his dad. The car had been parked up previously for well over a year. Prior to parking up there was apparently a hot start issue.
Now I have the following problem
Smoke on start up which clears after some revving and driving.
No power from turbo at all
No lights on the dash board.
The mechanic has just declared it a turbo fail but I think it needs further investigation.
There was some specks of oil from exhaust but this was soon after it had been parked.
Anything I can check myself or could be a possible cause of no power?
