TPMS may be the best thing since sliced bread, but sliced bread was not that expensive compare to normal bread. As I am learning lately, it it hugely expensive (un-justified!) and complicated to maintain (same, also the fact that it complicted to change/update in Toyota cars).

Sorry about that Fella - my only experience of TPMS is after market systems which are not cheap but not prohibitivley expensive when it comes to replacement sensors. The batteries in my first system had a seven year life ( which they exceeded ) and my current one has replaceable batteries. Is TPMS a "MOT" issue, i.e. does it have to be working for the vehicle to pass if it was fitted by the manufacturer? ( and I'd better confess, I hate sliced bread!!!! )

I hate sliced bread as well... Yes, if it was fitted by the manufacturer, it has to work in the MOT. TBH, I think it is an important system, really essential, but the current pricing is way too high! It is a long story (will update when finished) but price of one sensor and programming from Toyota is £145 (sensor is £78). You can buy a whole sophisticated mobile phone for less than that! and it uses the 433MHz range, for which transmitters exit from the year dot - nothing sophisticated in that!!! (rant not over yet...)

I saw a black Rav 4 with a spare tyre on the door at a breakers yard in Brum a few months ago. I was hoping to get the drivers seat but someone had beat me to it. The next temptation was buying the rear door and bumper to swap with mine so I have a spare but wasn’t sure if it would work or not. In the end decided not to bother as I can’t change a tyte anyway and have tyre replace with the RAC so it’s juat a matter of giving them a call and waiting.
