ok...the offside wee bulb burst - the 5W that only an octopus can feach...until I realised that one has to remove the large plastic panel that goes across the front top to then reveal the bulbs. So I pushes the wee button down to loosen and remove the securing plugs; remove the panel and then fit new wedge bulb.
Replace plastic panel.... put plastic plugs back.....hell. How do these things revert to holding the panel down? The wee button in the middle seems to be stuck down....do I need to do something else or does it need new ones? Its the ones a little like a rawlplug thing

Is there a centre pin Ian? If so the pin needs to be pushed out from the pointed end so the 'head' protrudes. Put the whole thing back in the hole and push the pin back in to spread the legs of the rivet. Sometimes it is necessary to separate the tips of the rivet legs to allow the pin to be retracted. If the rivet legs break the rivets are readily available.

The rivets are not quite the same, but following your instruction, they behave the same. Thank you so much. I've to drive to Edinburgh on Tuesday so had visions of the plastic panel getting chewed up by the fans !

Sods law. One broke and another bit dropped into the cavern which houses the engine. However I acquired some from Halfords (given the online option via Royal Mail could take until next year) and the plastic shroud is now back in place, firmly.
