Hi, i just got redirected from a forum called `rav4world` and they told me the UK forum maybe will help me.
i am a 2010 Rav4 owner turbo diesel model, the face lift one without spare tire, it has 267 thousand kilometers and went through 3 family members and it mine now.
i am slowly modifying it, it has a ECU tune, it went from 150hp to now 190hp, and a custom intake so it makes turbo noises.
i wanted to find out about the engine and mainly the usual breakdowns this car has (mine only broke a starter and the intake butterfly to this day) although it now developed a wierd way of shifting gears i thing the auto clutch is about to die (its automatic transmission)
and also would be very helpful to know any performance parts for it that i can buy because it turns out to be difficult to find any.
in about a week i will be starting to modify it, redo the turbo and make it bigger on the inside, propper intake tubing and air filter, staight pipe that goes out the side with a open/close valve and maybe a boost pressure gauge and transmission temp gauge (as my transmission once got very hot at autoban in germany going almost constant speed of 210kph and it stoped shifting gears)
sorry for the bad english its not my native language, Hi from Spain Mallorca
oh yes and also the turbo is about to die it makes a klunking or rattling noise and sometime the car emits a very white smoke. this car its my daily driver and every weekend i go to the mountains and race it there ( i would like to keep it forever no matter what it takes in sums of money, every single service or repair always at toyota dealership)

Welcome to the forum. I tend to read Rav4World to get ideas of what others have done to their cars and improving their engines as you get a variety of ideas from all over the world. I don't know much about your car engine...my knowledge has been with petrol engines. Perhaps others here will have some ideas.

If you are keeping it for a long time, check out for rust/corrosion on the fuel filler pipe; check the rear subframe too, and generally underneath. Its worth cleaning it and treat any rust, then underseal it - British roads are bad for corrosive salt ! The 2006/7 models were bad for the sills rusting. I think this problem was fixd on later cars but as the car is 12 years old, check the sills too. No point having a powerful engine if it leaves the bodywork behind!! On a previous Rav (1994 model( I fitted a 4 pot brake caliper to the front...if you increase engine power, you need to also be able to stop! That Rav was petrol and pushing 300bhp.

The sills and rear subframe need to be checked and ideally treated with an underseal. I'll PM my contact
