Hi folks Do you folks think these are beyond use? , Mitsubishi have them on Amber as the cracks are " slightly perished " in the main circumference grooves. The tread depth is fine , loads left. Hope the pics show enough detail. They're yoko blue earth.

That's not acceptable on three year old tyres with so much tread left Jamie. Think I'd be approaching Yokohama for a partial payment towards new ones if Mitsubishi won't play ball. Once had a set of tyres on a Defender that went that way and managed to get a contribution to replacements. Can't remember the make but factory fitted at the time.

If your cars under warranty the tyres should be replaced free of charge. Don’t let them ask you to contribute because you’ve had the use of them thus far. That’s aside from the point that they’ve perished early. Trust me I would be getting those changed and wouldn’t be paying.
In the unlikely event of an incident and your car being examined by plod you could end up in the mire especially as the servicing agent has marked your card. Get em changed immediately under warranty. Remember with any warranty and in addition to that warranty we are protected by law by an “ expectation “ clause which says we can expect a reasonable life from most things. The expected life of a tyre is 6 years.

Thank you chaps, I'll put it to them politely but firmly. I've just emailed them, so although I'm flagged up. It's querying the point , I can't ring as it's past opening times.

Jamie put it in writing. Inform them that you find it completely unacceptable that tyres should be perishing and cracking at the age they are…. If they don’t play ball it’s a small claims procedure that they will loose. They absolutely will never allow that to happen trust me on that. New tyres or small claims…. You just can’t loose. By putting your complaint in writing is setting off on the right foot to litigation and they will know this. 👍👍

As I understand it Toyota NZ don't cover tyres under warranty so I wonder if Mitsubishi are the same?
Perhaps you will have to go direct to the Yokohama tyre company?

Perhaps you will have to go direct to the Yokohama tyre company? I think it depends on the manufacturer’s policy. I had one of the batteries fail in a Land Cruiser at about 4 years old and my local Mr.T replaced it under warranty. I was pleasantly surprised as I expected it to be classed as a consumable or get referred to the battery manufacturer.

If your car was registered in 2019, the tyres could easily have been manufactured in 2018 and so be four years old already, I would certainly want to be at least thinking about replacing tyres as "time expired" after five years irrespective of the amount of tread left. (And those tyres look 'adequate' for another year or two.)

I have to say , my handwriting is now... terrible ! Predictive text is handy , but as above - is hand writing all one word?
Blimey, I feel old now 😳
So , it's had to be email - one to Mitsubishi UK. And one to the dealer service desk.
I have to check, wording - spelling and punctuation!
And facts , all the correct information.

So week 43, 2018 ... you'd hope they'd be in a better state after four years, but you'd have to take into account the "storage" conditions. I wouldn't be over concerned about surface cracking between the treads - I'd be far more concerned about side wall condition ...

The Yokohama Geolandars I had on the Rav looked just like those after four years and I'm sure it was fairly common.

To put some perspective on it , I decided to look at mums yaris. A smaller car I know , but a 16 reg - she does less mileage than me. Hers sits in the drive , probably gets used twice a week. Has 28k miles , and her tyres are cracking too and are farely new , i wonder if its been the serious heat this year ?. Not quite a bad as mine , but it's almost one continuous crack. But , I did just check the Amber advisory again. I've only got 3.4 mmm left on one. None the less , its still legal - but it'll need changing before winter. Thanks folks.

OK dokey, the side walls are fine 👍 - but I'll see what Mitsubishi say if they reply to my emails.
