My RAV4 mk 3 XTR has the ability to connect a mobile phone via Bluetooth for hands free use. It works fine, but when my partner uses the car she 'logs' her phone in and so the next time I use the car my phone doesn't automatically work handsfree (Agghhh!), I have to reset the system to my phone when I enter the car and the same for my partner if I was the last to use it. Question: Is there any way of configuring the system to avoid having to do this Bluetooth phone mating procedure every time 'the other' phone is used? In other words, can two phones both be connected at the same time, and how do you set that up? Thanks.

I no longer have a system of that generation, but I'm pretty sure that you can't have two 'phones actually connected at the same time - though I doubt that was what you really meant.
IIRC you can have multiple 'phones registered with the system - i.e. 'phones that the system knows and has been paired with for Bluetooth use in the past.
You might then hope that the system will connect automatically to the first registered device that it subsequently sees - but I honestly can't remember whether it does that. With the latest system it states: There's a simply priority ordered list of 'phones under Bluetooth settings - but you'd need to look at the Infotainment System Manual for your car to discover whether it is the same ...

Is it just the "last drivers" phone that connects?

In other words, the system stays with the last phone that was Bluetooth matched to it. The other, non-connected phone will ring if called but has to be used manually to take the call.

I also have a 4.3 but I changed the headunit for an aftermarket one which allows 2 phones to be connected. It's a Kenwood unit, but swapping the headunit is not a cheap option. I still have the original ( working ) Toyota unit in store somewhere.

How are these size/type of head units described?

How are these size/type of head units described? The space in the dashboard accommodates what is known as a "double DIN headunit". Mine, which was superceded several years ago, is a Kenwood DNX8160DBS. I don't know where you are based ( I'm in West Yorkshire ) but have a look at: www.caraudiocentre.co.uk/product_m-kenwood-car-audio-dmx8020dabs_p-42176.htm, which I think is the updated version of mine. I bought mine from the same place and got them to fit it as they had all the adaptor cables and the new surround moulding in stock. I use an old iPhone ( 6s+ ) with mine and it's faultless. It uses a Gamin mapping system on the satnav which is easily updatable. Fitting took about 90 minutes.

It looks like Kenwood still do yours id this is the one: www.kenwood.eu/car/navigation_multimedia/navigation/DNX8160DABS/?view=detailsLooking at various models I notice that some are specified at 6.8" and some are 7". Presumably this is just the actual screen size and does not affect it fitting any car with a double DIN capability? Is that correct? Another thing, I still like using CDs!

You will be fine with the Kenwood then Steve! I use CD's as well, but you have a lot of "input" options - iPhone, Android, USB thumb drive, CD's. The short answer to your 6.8 / 7.0 question is, if it is double DIN it will fit - BUT - make sure you can get the aftermarket surround to fit your motor before buying the unit. I think that I'd either get it fitted or buy a full kit of parts from the same source - Headunit, conversion cables and surround. My RAV is an early 4.3 and the steering wheel controls don't work with the headunit. For me, this wasn't an issue but if it's a problem for you, ask if it will work with your version of the 4.3. SHCM is our in-house expert on vehicle electronics and he explained to me ( if I remember correctly ) that the Toyota vehicle bus system is not compatible with the Kenwood. GOOD LUCK! Where are you based by the way?

But like you say, better to use someone who is prepared to do the whole job.
