Hi, I have a 2009 Rav4 d4d And I have a loud engine, Sometimes the engine is quiet and Sometimes the engine makes Knocking or tappingn sound, For example, Sometimes the engine is quiet and i drove for a long time in city or outside and barely no Knocking sound, Sometimes when is drive for a long time reaching 3000rpm then i hear knocking sound after that and it doesn't go away even after days. What is the problem? My engine oil is 5w40

Greetings.

If the further you go and the harder you drive means your metallic noises get louder then you have internal engine wear. Likely the crank main bearings the big end bearings possibly the small end bearings or a mixture of any of the above. Or Cam wear….
