I just had an extensive test drive in the new Yaris Cross and have to say, was suitably impressed! It drives well, light responsive steering, very good brakes, and really comfortable for a small car. The ride quality in my opinion is acceptably firm, but the handling in town and country roads was impressive. Much like the early RAV's but the computer showing close on 60 mpg in town driving. Seems that Toyota now make a car that is hybrid focused with a petrol engine rather than petrol focused with a hybrid drive. No opening sun roof is a downer for me, and things like a flimsy hatch luggage cover and quite a bit of hard plastics let it down a bit. Good space in the back and our 11 year old dog was able to get in and out reasonably well, a bit like me! :TU:
We are looking to change our car in Spain and this will be high on our list!!

Not exactly a looker. The wheels look tiny and lost in those big square arches especially at the front. Front grill is hideous… Toyota make some pretty ugly cars these days.

Oh, it's really very cute Charlie ... it looks like a baby RAV ... ... or ... yes, beauty is very much in the eyes of the beholder and it's just as well Toyota make some very good cars because they wouldn't sell on looks alone.

Opinions on a car's looks are subjective, no doubt about it. That said, I think the Yaris Cross looks good, much like a shrunken RAV4. So many of today's cars look so similar (and boring) that Toyota's SUVs stand out somewhat. At least they're not mediocre.

So, is the Yaris Cross more a logical successor to: - The original RAV 4
- The Urban Cruiser
The Yaris is a pretty sound platform to start with. The original RAV4 was based on the then Corolla platform IIRC. And they are pretty similar in size. But the advertising seems far more focused on the Urban Cruiser market ... ?

It seems there is a size game going on with these cars ? The Yaris surely isn’t far off the same as the CHR ?

The C-HR is just right. So you're wrong there Charlie - and if you disagree, kindly take it up with my wife! Actually, I think the C-HR is more like the size of the Corolla ... Edit: checking I note that: - The Yaris and Yaris Cross are built on the TNGA-B platform
- The Corolla, C-HR and Prius are built on the TNGA-C platform
- While the RAV4, Camry and Highlander are built on the TNGA-K platform

Our neighbour has a new CHR and traded her RAV for it. Difficult to compare the Yaris to the CHR, sporty versus utility. We felt the back of the CHR was like a coffin!
