Hello all.
In 2004 I bought a brand new RAV4 in New Zealand. I live in the UK but spent time there and wanted a nice runabout. At the time, many NZ Ravs came with a two-tone paint job but I spec'ed all black. The 2004 update with the newer wheels, facelift etc also the NZ market got the 2.4 four cylinder petrol VVTi engine.
We didn't fancy an auto so special ordered it manual and 6-8 weeks later it arrived from Japan. We loved it and it got used - and being all-black and (as opposed to black with silver arch flares) it was unique and got positive attention. But it also spent 8 months every year garaged because we were back a forward from the UK and NZ.
Fast forward to 2009 I think it was and we were in the UK pretty much full time. I was back in NZ finishing up the house and I had the RAV for sale and I was batting off enquiries but I just couldn't let go of it because it's a great car, with low miles and with no salt on the roads in NZ, I knew any UK car would just not be the same. So it went in a container and headed to the other side of the world.
Once it arrived via Specialised Shipping Services their conversion people had a few small things modified for the UK as well as the VOSA and DVLA stuff done. The speedo face was changed to MPH and rear fog lights had to be added. For the latter, I had them find and fit light-up LED reflectors to replace the two existing reflectors in the quarter bumpers rather than fit that blocky horrible Toyota rear fog light. Mmmm super smooth rear
NZ cars were named differently, they are called RAV4 but I mean the model variants. Mine is a 'limited' which was the top spec. NZ 'Limited' model cars, in addition to the 2.4L engine, had a high level rear spoiler which look great. (Whenever I see a UK car without one I always think it looks naked.)
Fast forward again to 2021 and the car still has very low miles as it is used one in a blue moon by my wife. We had no intention or need to sell it.
Until last week.... Sadly Mayor Khan gets back in and that means ULEZ expansion is going ahead and that means I need to change both our cars. I'm cross to say the least. Depressed even; my Range Rover's got to go too. Two great cars in the family that can't stay.
So
-one owner since new,
-5-door
-2.4L petrol VVTi
-5-speed manual
-air con
-grey cloth interior with silver trim accents
Have added:
-Android head unit with reverse camera and rear parking sensors
Will be listed for sale soon and I thought you guys on the forum would appreciate this cracker. If you're into MkII RAVs this is the best one IMHO. You know what they say - there's no replacement for displacement!
Be interested to hear your thoughts about it; if people are interested and value too.
Will post up some pics soon too. In the meantime, here is a pic on the day of delivery back in NZ, back in 2004.
Cheers, Greg
