I'm intending to hardwire my Nextbase 402G dashcam into my Rav4 Mk3 XTR. I am purchasing the Nextbase hardwiring kit.
So, I'm starting from ground zero, where's the fuse box? Where do I connect to? I need it to be a switched supply that comes on with the ignition. Any hints and tips on hiding the cable etc etc will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Note, Nexbase's web site does have an instruction page for hardwiring but it's pretty simplistic and lacks a lot of detail that someone like me will need in order to complete the job. I'm actually a qualified electronics engineer and able to work on electronics equipment like videos, radios, hifi etc, but car electrics, getting behind panels and all that stuff are something that I've never really dabbled with. Oh, I once fitted a cassette player into my mini in the early 70s - a few bolts and a couple of wires!
Thanks again.

Fuses accessible behind the glovebox. Open it, squeeze the peg holding the damper on to disconnect it and then squash in the sides of the tub to remove it downwards and out from the hinges. Fuses should then be visible. Can't remember which it is but the 12v/cigarette lighter is ignition controlled. It should be possible to hide the cable up the edge of the 'A' pillar and across the headlining behind the rubber seal.

On topic..... Well nearly...
When I bought the wee VW I was asked by my insurer if the car would have a dash cam fitted. I said it would.
But the fuse box which is tiny is right above the pedals up out of sight. I cannot even get to look at it without a mirror !! I asked the garage if they would do the connection but they couldn’t have been less interested..... So I rang the insurance and informed them no dash cam will be in the car...
The extra charge was less than £2.........
Main point though was I asked if they had the cheek to ask me for two miserable quid how much were they going to refund me as the cars are hardly getting used ? I got a refund of 85 quid 👍👍👍👍
Had I not called them and asked I would have got nothing.

If fitted, I tend to piggyback off the supply for the electro-chromic rear view mirror, which is off a general 10A IGN switched fuse "ECU-IG1". If it's not the mirror with a rear view monitor, it's a 7 pin connector. Supply Pin 6 & 7, I believe. Probably blue (VIGN) & GND (white/black), but a DVM will tell you that. What's probably essentially a 5V regulator for the camera can then be put under the roof lining (access by pulling out/down the map light centre roof console - just pull).
This supply is, after all, almost exactly where you want a dash cam. You can get away with at least an extra 5W+ (1A @ 5V, assuming 100% reg efficiency, which it certainly will not be. Assume 80 to 90% for a switching buck reg) off this fuse.

The lower, larger glovebox is the one you need to get behind. The cabin filter is located there too.

I remember looking for this fusebox David. I think it was Don who told me that you could only see the fuses if you were looking VERTICALLY UPWARDS. Having struggled getting into a suitable position to see what I was doing and then struggling even more getting out of it, I bought a 300mm square plastic mirror tile that I lay on the footmat. Makes the job much more comfortable :TU:
