One of the best races I've actually seen, in regards to overtaking and excitement, we saw a bit of the good old days of F1 there. Hopefully this will help the cause with the BRDC negotiations with the new F1 owners Liberty Media in regards to continuing a British GP, as it stands at the moment, 2019 could be the last British GP anywhere never mind at Silverstone because there is nothing signed or agreed after 2019.

I find it quite amazing that with the ticket prices charged (possibly the highest on the entire calendar?) and the level of attendence that Silverstone get that they cannot make a decent profit. Something is wrong with the whole setup and probably knowing Ecclestone, the fees are way too high. Loosing Silverstone would be a great loss to Formula 1 as a whole but it doesn't mean the Circuit should subsidise it, so I am all for Silverstone playing hardball on this.

Attendance on Sunday alone was 340,000.

Well what a screw up by Mercedes, when are they going to learn, that's twice they have got it wrong on tyres, they need new tacticians, or at least bolder tacticians, they were just lucky they could turn the engines up, but that may return to haunt them in the future when the engines get towards their life expectancy.
I think swapping Bottas tyres may have made sense but not Hamiltons - if he came in with the other front runners to swap out, he would have finished 4th at best. I thought NOT calling him in after the mistake in Austria was actually quite a bold move. Mercedes came 2nd and 4th - if they did the knee-jerk reaction on the tyres, they would not have bettered that result and probably gone worse.

How exactly would they have got ahead of Vettel who DID come in for tyres (and the fastest tyres at that) and was in a highly competetive car?

We will never know because Mercedes chickened out, as to tyres they could all of been on the same tyre, they had stocks of each, but it would have been one hell of a last 5 laps with 4 drivers & 3 podium places.

They didn't chicken out at all, they made the correct decision for the team. Still love to know how on earth you reckon Vettel would lose two places? (I certainly will never know ) PS. Apparently Mercedes did not have fresh soft tyres, so could not have fitted equivalent tyres to the Ferrari even if they brought in Bottas and a dubious move to bring in Lewis
