Doesn't that extra point only count if you finish in the top ten ? Although you don't get a point if you are outside the top 10, I beleve that you can deprive sombody in the top ten of the fastest lap point, so it is still an advantage to go for it to aid a team-mate in the top 10, or to deprive a rival who is in the top ten. Like most things F1 they’ve made is complicated as possible. Only allowing the point if in the top ten is like saying to the lower teams your not worthy…. Fastest lap driver/team should get the point plain simple and easy. The stewards are hopeless and corrupt. It’s blindingly obvious. It’s a real shame cos it spoils a sport that has just got interesting again. Money talks……..

I think for me personally come Sunday I just want to see a clean race, sort of got bored seeing Lewis win every year, bit like the Ferrari years... Max is holding all the ace cards to win this race and if he does, good luck to him. It will be a one off, as the new cars/regulations for 2022 will mix up the front end of the grid . I’m thinking this race will have the most followers around the world , will many hoping for Max to continue his over aggressive style of driving and make the race more interesting. Let’s just hope no drivers need to be carted off to hospital !!

As a reminder for people interested, Channel 4 will be showing the full race live.
I'll still be watching on Sky to avoid the body-bopping Jones!

Let’s just hope no drivers need to be carted off to hospital !! Well, if Max continues his over-aggressive driving, let's hope the Stewards apply the appropriate sanctions. His "Brazil was ok" mantra as a way to show he is being picked on was down to the Stewards at that race NOT doing their job (despite every other non-Red Bull affiliated driver NOT agreeing that his move on Brazil was ok). That gave him the go ahead to be more dangerous on the track and when the stewards DID do their job in later races it was in his eyes them picking on him. I find it hard to believe that Winger Spice Horner really truely believes what he says in his public interviews. Ref point for fastest lap, this only becomes relevant for Lewis and Max if they finish Lewis 9th and Max 10th, as that is the only time there is a single point difference and fastest lap would come into play. So I doubt if either of those two will really care in this race. I would think Mercedes will have Bottas lined up to come in and change tyres even if he were leading if the team needed to take fastest lap from Max if the two were 9th and 10th (If this scenario came into play, the constructors championship would have already been won by Mercedes even if Bottas dropped out the top 10 to get fastest lap and Perez won it would not matter).

I really hope the race result is not influenced by either Bottas or Perez…… Or the stewards for that matter. I also hope both drivers don’t get silly or start whining.
I expect I want to much though 😂😂😂

The reason they don't give points for fastest lap outside the top ten is to avoid 10 cars all trying to do a tyre change in the last few laps just at the point that people battling for a points position may also be trying to do a tyre change.

Same for everyone though…… Except drivers in the top ten have to be ahead of the driver following enough to pit stop and get back out again in the same position to make it worth while, for people outside the top ten it wouldn't matter if they came last if they gained a point.

Is there any other sport where you can’t get the point you’ve achieved because of you finish position?? We are after all talking about a hypothetical point here but it could happen and the team would also loose the monetary value of the point which to the lower teams probably means a lot. When I taught martial arts which I did for well over 30 years I can say that to those who were not so great in competition would have felt really genuinely gutted if they were disallowed an award any award. We had minor awards for best effort. Most improved etc. It gave a huge boost to the up and coming and those who tried very hard but in reality weren’t good enough….. F1 obviously doesent care about stuff like that.

To my mind, it is not really a sport as such. In sports you try to have level ground and let the best performer win. In F1 there is so much difference, not even the engine is the same (with a different chassis) so it is really a technology competition. The driver has some effect, but it is more about technology. I used to watch it, but there is so much unfairness in the way the rules apply and what I said above that I am not interested any more.

I understand where you are coming from, but the reality of potentially 10 drivers all jostling for a tyre change followed by trying to achive the fastest lap at the same time that they are supposed to be giving way to front runners that are also in the mix is a recipe for disaster and likely to spoil the race for everyone. The only way you could do that is give points to every position, then going for fastest lap would also be restricted by whether you can pit without losing track position as with the current top 10. Or only accept fastest lap of sombody who finishes in the top 10. I am not saying that the system is perfect, just why giving a fastest lap point to a driver outside the top 10 would cause more problems.

I used to watch it, but there is so much unfairness in the way the rules apply and what I said above that I am not interested any more. I don’t consider having a discussion in an arena like this to be a waste of time and certainly no aggro…. Far from it. I stopped watching F1 when it went from the glorious days of the big petrol engines to the current hybrid kit. I used to go to the races when I could and it was amazing and quite different to watching from the armchair. Now I watch cos we’re kinda locked up avoiding the viruses … Plus there is a scrap going on which I truly believe is good for F1 as it is in any sport. I mean who wants to watch ant sport where the same person wins week in week out and in F1 your sooooo right it’s the technology that has given one team in particular a massive advantage. That and endless money. So now we have a team that have produced a car nearly equal. They have a driver who is a scrapper in every sense of the word. Game on…. Not quite though is it. F1 will die again if the FIA and it’s representative stewards keep favouring one team and one driver……… I was a massive LH fan until he got so far up himself. Yes he is an extremely talented driver but there at least 6 others who would be breaking records if they had that drive. I will as I always have support the under dog…..

Perhaps the answer is either everyone can score that point or no one…… F1 is to complex for that though.
