Mon Feb 12, 2018 12:58 pm #1 saulgardiner Hi All Hope this info may be of help to some as I know it's a common issue with many having a hard time getting it fixed. After suffering issues with safe mode & loss of power on an off for a good few years with no definite fix we finally seem to have the issue resolved. Various garages including the Toyota main dealer suggested we needed a new turbo, first time they suggested this was around six years ago! After reading about the problems on various forums we decided to try other things such as cleaning the MAFF sensor, new suction control valve, EGR cleaned a few times etc etc but nothing really helped other than a treatment of FORTE Diesel turbo cleaner and a blast down the motorway when it got going! Finally even this stopped working after a prolonged period of town driving it just seemed to be stuck with serious power loss issue's. We recently found a decent mechanic who was willing to listen and do some proper fault finding (not just computer says no crap!) what he found seems to have been the real culprit! Even though the EGR had been cleaned various times, had no fault codes relating to it, appeared clean and was moving freely. When powered up off the car it wasn't operating properly. So nice new Denso EGR and the car is driving great once more and not having to fork out £1500 to Toyota for a new turbo!!! Cheers Saul

I had a similar tale recently. They tried all the usual and a new EGR cured it. It had one when it was a couple of years old but it showed up a fault code. This time nothing but it turned out to be the culprit.

i have a loss of power/hesitation after about 4 months nipping around town. a long journey with bg244 in the tank seems to solve it for another 4 months though. is this the same problem ? or is it as i think...sticky variable vanes in the turbo? the fault i get is 1251 pressure warning.
