Spent the weekend drying out the n/s footwells in the Saab. Our daughter has been using it since her BMW lunched its engine. Unfortunately she has to park under trees at the surgery where she works and the leaves and general tree sh1t that falls on it eventually blocked the drains under the pollen filter. There was a veritable bird bath in there when I removed the scuttle cover. Cleared the drain but had to order a new pollen filter as it was submerged partly in the water. Had she told me a couple of weeks ago when it first occurred then the clean-up would have been a lot easier but she thought her daughter hadn't closed the passenger door properly and let the water in. It didn't occur to her that the car won't lock if the door isn't closed properly. So she threw a couple of towels in the passenger footwell and thought that would sort it. Friday night's downpour filled the car up nicely and then the whole sorry tale came out.....
Pissed off doesn't adequately cover it. 😕

Used to park our mx5 at the tube station under same sort of crap. Was clearing drain holes on almost a weekly basis this time of the year.

Reminds me of dads old Sierra, weather it rained or it was washed always in the passenger footwell it was soaked. Never found the cause as far as I can remember think he glad when he got rid of it

We had a new Ford Galaxy back in 1996 and after the first Autumn leaves had blocked the drain holes under the windscreen wiper panel and water filled the glovebox 🙄....just a bad design.

The drains in the Saab are quite large, about 1inch X 2 inches oval and they empty behind the engine/gearbox, so they are pretty good at clearing water. They were clogged up with sludge that had formed from the seed pods and buds off the trees. The leaves are kept out of the filter box by the grilles in the scuttle panel. But the other crap is just so small that nothing can prevent it (other than regular checks on the drains - job added to weekly underbonnet checks, I guess).

same problem exixts on the older passats, mine had the issue but due to proper carpets in there it wasn't apparent until it had soaked the control box for the central locking under the front passenger seat !! lost the rear nearside door locking through that episode. bloody water !!

I used to have a 1961 mini, if I didn't lift my feet off the pedals when going through a big puddle, they would get wet from the water spraying in through the holes in the floor pan.
