Have a strange problem with my Rav d4d. Hesitation when acceleration, and sometimes I can’t get past 3000 rpm, but it might be enough to let of the throttle and after that it may go past 3000rpm. Bought it very cheap because of some problems, and previus owner cleaned the egr and then the car ran ok for a day, but problem returned quickly. Could an open egrvalve cause the engine to not get past 3000rpm? Maybe the electric solenoid is acting up.. Someone have any ideas for things to try or check before buying new egr?
I've has a similar sounding problem with mine recently, a few times when accelerating off an island I experienced a momentary loss of power and then it picked straight up and then a couple of weeks ago it went into limp mode when accelerating to pass a lorry on a hill, the fault code was P1251 and googling this I found suggestions that the vanes in the turbo were most likely stuck. Anyway , I'm now waiting for this to arrive as it seems to have very good reviews and will hopefully sort it.
There are two likely causes. The SCV valves and the EGR. Neither are cheap but you can get genuine Denso ones off eBay which will save something.
Which one first? Unless you wait until it throws a fault light it’s difficult to say but if it definitely cured it when you messed with the EGR and it’s definitely the same symptoms then that might be worth a punt.
Stay well away from Supermarket diesel unless you are using Millers in every tank.
