You would have to be quite mad to polish some of the cars I have without a dual layer PTG.......£1100 is nothing compared to rectifying damage to expensive cars. Not to mention the dent to the pride. True, but £1,100 is an expensive tool to buy to use maybe once a year on a car that is worth around £4,000. It is indeed. But then IF luck ran out and a strike through happened ............. But I completely understand your very valid point. Pauls question is IMO invalid. I’m a wee bit unsure he’s understood any of the answers as he asked again after the answers were posted. IMO investing in a decent quality machine costing about 200 quid is way better than buying a machine with no low speed capability and no soft start....... Sorry but it’s loading the dice against yourself. But I’m a tool orientated person and won’t buy half way hose kit no matter what 👍👍👍

I still maintain......DA polisher to start off with........had some stunful results with not that much extra input, albeit not susceptible to whitefinger.

But to get a decent quality RO polisher and trust me you really don’t want a crap one will cost more than a very good quality Rotary. I still have my Porter Cable in it’s original box I bought from the States way back and cut my teeth on... Its that old it’s one of the original 110V ones and I also have the transformer and leads fog it... It is of course a Random Orbital. Anyone ever used one ?

I've been considering machine polishing my Mitsi. But I've only got a dewalt 14v cordless drill to use 🤔
After reading through some of this thread , I can't justify spending on a rotary polisher.

DO NOT attempt to polish that new car with a pad in a drill..... EVER.... The potential damage would end up on tears...... Big tears.

Thank you. 👍👍 Get yourself a decent random orbital machine some soft pads and some low cut polish. You have a brand new car so a couple of hundred quid ain’t gonna hurt you. We will advise you all the way. Safe and sound ......

Does the Eclipse have plastic front wings like the ASX Jamie? Very good point. No idea , I'll have a 'tap ' in the morning see what it sounds like. It's farely shiny anyway , but I'd just like to try to achieve a better finish than they did.

I had a Meguires RO polisher but it gave me white finger in no time so that got moved on. Following Charlie’s advice about machine polishers, I bought a Milwaukee cordless machine. I’ve got the batteries so I was part way there. It’s fantastic, very easy to use, no white finger, plenty of power and never had any calamities with it.

When you say a Meguires RO polisher, was it a DA (Dual Action) or a RO (Rotary Oribital AKA 'MOP')? the ROs don't tend to have the vibrations that that DAs do, but I guess some might? I found the vibrations from the Meguires DA Polisher I had made it very uncomfortable to use after a short time, and the fact that the DAs take so much longer to get results compared to the ROs just made the situation worse. I have one of the very basic mains Oribtal Polishers - cost around £40 or so? - and it works very well and does the job. What I DID do though is junk all the backing plates and pads that came with it and bought 3M plates and pads plus 3M polishes. Cost more than the machine itself for sure but worth doing.

Does the Eclipse have plastic front wings like the ASX Jamie? Very good point. Well , I guess the front wings are steel as I found a tiny dent today that I hadn't seen. Looks like a door ding from another car. 😕 Must have happened recently, I've managed to polish off the paint from the other car. But it's left a noticeable tiny dent in the fold of the wheel arch. You can see it by reflection change. Bloomin annoying.
