I was giving the Rav a good wash yesterday, well trying to, but the alarm kept going off as soon as i touched it. I kept trying locking and unlocking it but it didn't seem to make any difference? Any ideas why this was happening? We are glad it's got a sensitive alarm as there have been loads of car thefts round here recently but would still like to wash it without it going off?

I've never had a 4.2 so can't be sure how the alarm system works but, in general: - If the car is locked the alarm should be activated and it is possible that washing the car could be interpreted as an attempt to break in - if the sensors are sensitive enough.
- If the car is unlocked the alarm should be off and should neither detect anything nor sound.
- If the car was locked, is unlocked but no one gets in within a short while, it may well lock itself again just to be on the safe side. If this is what is happening you should unlock the car, open a door (as if getting in) and then close the door again to ensure that the car remains unlocked.
Maybe?

If cleaning the RAV4 Paul, unlock with the remote and open and shut the door , this will insure it doesn’t auto lock again 👍🏻

Doesn't the third press on the remote leave the car locked but the alarm off ?

Doesn't the third press on the remote leave the car locked but the alarm off ? I think that the third press disarms the interior movement sensors.😊

Maybe? That sums it up nicely, Philip.😊
