That looks a very good buy for someone in the market for such a car.

I can't see that RAV4 hanging around long at all.
I bet it really will be a case of "first to see will buy"

Just to add to recent history of the car, within the last year, all 4 discs and pads were changed,
as well as the handbrake cables renewed.

Eventful day, went to drive 2 x cars.
1st was a 2016 Rav4 Excel 2.0 diesel, 2nd was a Seat Ateca 1.6tdi 1st edition.
rav was 15 minutes away in Lenzie. Lovely drive, lovely car.
Then drove 1 hour away to Ayr only to be told the Seat was sold that morning !
Drove back for another look at the rav, and decided to buy before it went too.
I thought £14.9k was good price for a 30k mile Excel so decided not to wait for private sale of current car.
Hey Ho.

Yes, going for either all seasons, or spare set of wheels with winter tyres.
Realised for someone who doesn't go off road, they should get me through a Scottish winter.

A wee word of caution. Sorry.
Residuals on the 2.0 cars is heartbreakingly low. The 2.2 is a reasonably powerful car the 2.0 struggles. Few people seek to buy RAV4s without AWD.
Just my 2 cents worth.

Had a drive in it and it seemed fine. I had looked up the specs to compare .
2016 vs 2011
140bhp vs 147bhp
236ft-lb vs 251ft-lb
1625kg vs 1595kg
indicates a slight loss of power / torque to weight ratio, although for some reason the 0-60 time has come down from 9.9 to 9.3 seconds.
I suppose from our first rav 4 ( 1996 2.0 gx 5door in green ) to the current 2011 one, I've done Zero miles off road, so loss of AWD
won't make a difference in the new one with all season Vredestein Quatrac5 tyres. That's the hope anyway.
I'll write about it after the first snowfall.
Daughter has a wee Dacia stepway with Goodyear vector all seasons gen 2 tyres, and it made it everywhere the 2011 AWD rav went.

Just my 2 cents worth. Ref the AWD bit, do you think that is still the case? When Toyota first brought out the option of a 2WD RAV4, it was seen as a very strange and undesirable option as the RAV4 was always a 4WD car. But nowadays, more and more SUVs and "4WD"s are coming with 2WD only and customers like the general stance and driving position of that type of vehicle and don't in reality have the need for 4WD. When companies such as Land Rover and JEEP bring out 2WD versions of their 4WD models you know many purchasers don't care about 4WD. Just look at the daft wheels and tyres on some Range Rovers and you can be sure those cars probably never even go over a kerb let alone off-road. The car I had between my 4WD RAV4.2 and 4WD RAV4.3 was a Nissan Qashqai. I went for the 2WD version and there was just the one winter where for 2 or 3 days I was stuck where either RAV4 would have carried out. But a pair of "autosocks" on the tyres sorted me out (only needed the once on one hill) and winter tyres would have probably done the job as well. I can definately see the appeal of going 2WD in an SUV. Having gone back to 'normal' cars for the last 6 years, I don't really miss the 4WD ability but I like sitting higher (like in my Campers)

Personally, I find the concept of a 2WD SUV a bit perverse. It seems to me to be simply a marketing ploy playing on people's obsession these days with image. For me the best option for space, economy and performance in 2WD would be a good estate car and there is lots of choice from big Volvos down to little Fabias. Generally the useable space in an estate is less compromised than in an SUV due to the latter's body shell having been configured to accommodate all the 4WD kit. From what I have read in the motoring press estate cars are making a comeback for just these reasons.

SUVs are sexy; MPVs are not - so the manufacturers have restyled their MPV range as (2wd) SUVs (with the third row of seats) purely for marketing reasons ...

I can definately see the appeal of going 2WD in an SUV. Having gone back to 'normal' cars for the last 6 years, I don't really miss the 4WD ability but I like sitting higher (like in my Campers) It’s a fact that most manufacturers build 2WD versions of what most assume are 4WD vehicles. That is why I posted above just in case our friend had not realised. He definitely would not have been the first person to have assumed his choice was 4WD to later find out it wasn’t. Its not about off roading for me it’s about the added ability for where we live. Up here in the hills 2WD would be a silly choice whether by design or mistake. i too find it ............ Well questionable rather than perverse that manufacturers build 2WD versions of the design brief that nearly always was 4WD. IMHO There is no need for winter tyres given the ability of the now common All season tyres we now have. But tyres cannot or ever will be a substitute for all wheels driven. A help yes a big help but useless where we live. Main point is Bill is aware and if he’s happy with his purchase and it’s abilities then jobs a gud un 👍👍👍
