something I would be inclined to do with a vehicle as complex as a RAV4 is to take out the TOYOTA extended warranty if you have not done so. It would probably pay for itself and at the least provides peace of mind for those who are inclined to worry. Exactly what I did David , from a different dealership locally. It covers engine ; drivetrain and almost anything mechanical on the car. They had a serious offer on so I grabbed it early last year. Although i get the feeling they'd wriggle out of any claim I'd make.

Just checked my coolant again , ( check my oil & coolant every Saturday now )
It's on minimum, so added about half a cup of water. So in 5 weeks it's drank two lots.
As I did the same when I was in Buxton.
Need I worry 🤔

If it's on minimum when cold, what is it when hot? So long as it's not below minimum I would be inclined to leave as is, otherwise all that will happen is that more will be expelled once hot.

I had some queries from the chap that bought numbers 1 and 2 ....he was worried that number 2 didn't have an expansion tank and thought it needed a tank plus topping up. He decided to drain the system and flush out the radiator finding orange liquid coming out. In checking with the mechanic who looke after number 2 for me he remnded me - on testing the engine after rebuild, there was no water in or out of the expansion tank so it was removed as unnecesaary. The coolant system was filled with neat orange antifreeze (is it G30...can't remember) which is sourced through the trade. I had a chuckle when I read that the chap had drained off quite expensive antifreeze. The benefit of a high level of antifreeze is it raises the boiling point of the coolant and so does its job without need to worry. So in your case, if the coolant is concentrated antifreeze, then topping up might just end up blowing excess out the overflow. I wouldn't worry too much at all. cars nowadays have temperature guages which show if the coolant is too hot or if there's none in (ie shown by low temp)

Yep , minimum before I started it this this morning. Although it's been roughly half way for weeks now. It's only changed this week , as I checked it last weekend. It's at max when at temp , and spat out a load more this morning in traffic on way to work. As I've just checked it in our works car park. And after spitting out what it doesn't need , it's still on max. Made quite a mess of that part of engine bay.😔

I'm thinking of running a clear rubber hose from that spout down to drain under car. Just so it doesn't make a mess.

Just clean it up, let it find it's own level and forget about it Jamie. Otherwise all you will be achieving is to dilute the coolant.

Hi folks.
Had an interesting morning, since I've had this coolant scenario. I've check oil & coolant every Saturday morning. Last time I saw the coolant on low was several months ago now. May have even been last October in Buxton. However, this morning- usual check with engine off. Coolant 1" below minimum!
I've topped up with genuine Toyota coolant... to just above min. I've added half a cup. But.. why would it drop ? - in one random week I've then driven about 20 miles this morning and it's spat out some excess... again. Cars just done 46k miles. Should I have left it below min ?
It seems the coolant cap may be letting by. Temperature needle stays halfway all the time.
