Memory is a gift. I remember reading this years ago. Anyway, gearbox issues on both 4.1 and 4.2 have a common 5th gear popping out problem.
However my question is about the mountings etc. Can I fit a 3SGTE engine to a 4.2 vvti engined car by removing just its engine ? Doing a full engine gearbox swap seems hard due to lengths of driveshafts/track width. Just exploring options.
BTW, the fire engine has a 6000cc petrol Bedford engine with a transmission train unlikely to survive much more than 100bhp; albeit is 4x4 but with a power takeoff box too.

My memory is so poor I can’t remember you asking the question before 😉
My guess would be the two engine are completely different so wouldn’t mount up 😟

Just spent a bit of time looking on eBay and google for a photo of the engines to compare but without any joy 😟
4.2 is a 1AZ-FE if it helps .

Thanks... The engines are quite different - the old 3SFE and the new 1AZ-FE as you say.
The common problem of 5th gear popping out leads me to wonder if its basically the same gearbox, alhough I understand the casting may be different. I'll maybe try looking at RAV4World - in case someone has done this abroad....I can't be the only nutter!
