Have a look for a dark patch on a disc. I have it several times lately and it’s down to a porous casting.

Have a look for a dark patch on a disc. I have it several times lately and it’s down to a porous casting. Hi,
Thanks for the suggestion, but since the noise started a year ago I have replaced all the disks and pads, with no change.
I am starting to think that although I cannot feel anything, that the noise is what I rejected early on which is a wheel bearing, as the noise gets progressively worse I am starting to get the sort of whine that I normally associate with wheel bearings.

Quite a bit of digging to do before you get at it but they come as a cartridge assembly so there’s no pressing to do.

Blimey. My 4.1 RAVs both (I think) have the original diff in after 24 years. Then I buys a 4.2 5-door petrol as a temp solution whilst the old ones are getting repaired/rebuilt/transplanted and the 2001 versions diff is whining....just at 80,000 miles. Not going to bother fixing it as the car is pretty poorly in the rust dept but never thought about wheel bearing. Theres me spouting forth that the Toyota diff is bomb proof too.
